城 事CITY EVENTS
As for the growth of it, everyone has his own recording ways.
It is the lens that Luo Dawan uses to record this city. In his lens, the city and its citizens, stories of the city, all aspects of bits and pieces of the city, whether in details, panoramic view or parts, are all presented in the concrete way and stored forever.
He is a doctor by profession and a photographer by avocation, more accurately, taking photos is just his hobby.
At a rainy night of wind with flashing thunder and rumbling lightning,Luo Dawan sets up his camera stand to capture the mysterious and unpredictable night sky; he props up a tripod in a high-rise by the Jialing River to shoot lightning across the Yuzhong Peninsula;he shuttles in the alleys among the residents' houses. He often waits for several hours, even a month or over, just for the perfect moment to press the shutter. Precious memories of urban development come from this kind of insistence.
Bruce Barnbaum, an American photographer, wrote in his book the Art of Photography: the meaning of a photo liesin that we become familiar again with what we have ever been familiar with but haven’t seen clear yet.
For people who have been living here in Chongqing, this mountain city is nothing but familiar. Meanwhile, the perception of it may be vague or one-sided. We neither really discern this mountain city, nor see its growth process bit by bit, the accumulation of power or blooming vitality. Aboutits stories, the photographer has something to say. We can think them through the photos of Luo Dawan, exploring the real mountain city changes and evoking the depths memory of the mountain people on the city's most clear memory and the most high-spirited attitude.
In the comparison of these old and new photographs, they are narrating stories of Chongqing development.
About the Hualong Bridge Tiandi Lake, standing on the glass bridge, Luo Dawan has a distinct recollection of where was once dilapidated residential rooms before the transformation of the old city. The Hualong Bridge in the lens has been messy, while at present it has a new name: IBD(International Business District). Huixian Building was once the highest building in Jiefangbei, but now 320 meter-high Chongqing World Financial Center has sprung up on the original site of the Huixian Building.
The story of the city is still on the road and Luo Dawan will never put down his camera. Looking up to the high-rise buildings and overlooking the antique traditional blocks, this rising city lines up in the lens with the intersection of colors, which constitute perfect pictures of"natural beauty of the landscape"and"the beauty of urban figure" .
