Everything Has Changed Because of YouTube
但無論如何,他們無法否認(rèn)一個事實(shí)——Everything has changed because of YouTube。
So I have a family1)vloggingchannel. The name of my channel is “The Shaytards.”It is true that my very first video is me dancing in one of my wife’s old2)unitards.
We’re oftentimes3)creditedas “YouTube’s First Family.” We were the first family that’s like, “We’re a family, and we make videos of our lives every day.”
People click on it, and then they start watching, and they’re like, “Whoa, this is, like, a real family. They’re, like, hanging out, and they, like, are kinda funny.” And then, all of a sudden, they’re4)hooked, and they don’t know why they’re hooked. They don’t know why they’re watching.
So at the time we very first started YouTube, I had just5)venturedout and started my own6)granite7)countertopbusiness. So then I was trying to, you know,8)jugglethe granite business and doing YouTube. And then I got my first check from YouTube which was for 3009)bucks, and I was like, “I got real money from making a YouTube video.”The second that I got that first 300 bucks and I could buy10)groceries, my11)immediatethought was, “I can make this grow.”
Colette(Shay’s Wife):When we first started making videos, it was just kind of, like a hobby. It was fun. In my mind, I’m thinking,“A couple minutes a day. Just throw it up real quick.” And it became much more than that. It became a diary of our lives.
Shay:(To the kids) Hey, will you guys help me shoot a video real quick? Let’s get some of these boxes.
Daughter:Can I have that one?
Shay:Yeah. Here, put that on your head. OK, here.
Colette:We12)definitelyget criticized for“13)exploiting” our children. I don’t feel like we are. It’s been a family adventure for all of us.
Shay:(To the kids) OK, on the count of three, everybody together. One, two, three.
I’ve used the example in the past that, you know, if your dad is a cow farmer, you got to get up and14)milkthe cows in the morning. That kid didn’t get a choice whether he could milk the cows or not; so you’re Shay Carl’s kid, get in front of the camera and be cute.

They do want to do videos. They definitely are YouTubers at heart just from watching us, but I want them to ease into it, right? I want them to make sure they’re making a wise decision, so I’m gonna make ’em wait till they’re 13.
It’s tough. It really is. Like, I don’t think people understand how difficult it is to open yourself on camera knowing that anybody in the world could15)critiquethe idea that you’re just about to bring forth. Like, that’s16)scaryto be like, “Tell me something that’s deep or an idea that you have, and then let’s let the entire world17)ripit apart. Go.”
There’s moments where the camera becomes18)intrusivein the moment. Me and Colette will be like, “You know what? Let’s just have this moment for ourselves.”I ask myself, “How long can I keep filming my family?” And our audience is like, “Never stop.” They wanna watch the kids get married. I don’t know the answer to that. I don’t know. I…I think about it 18 times a day though. To me, what I always have to protect is family. I’m a husband very first. And I’m a dad and, to me, keeping that family is the most important thing.
To be able to put into words what vlogging and what YouTube has done for my life, for my family tree for generations to come, it’s all different. Everything has changed because of YouTube.

● Hejuggledwith six eggs.(他用六個雞蛋耍把戲。)
● On the weekend, shejuggledtaking care of the baby and fnishing a 20-page paper.(她在周末既要照顧嬰兒,還要完成那篇20頁的論文。)
