Thedebut of Shiv-Yin, a contemporary dance drama under joint creation and presentation by Indian choreographer RukminiChatterjee and his Chinese counterpart TENG Aimin was shown in Beijing on 29, November. Hosted by Chinese Dancers Association, the drama is under co-production of China Literature and Art Foundation, India Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, Serendipity Art Fund and SRF. Blending India’s classical dance and China’s contemporary dance, the dance drama was committed to seeking the common place between the two cultures by interpreting the human emotions crossing the times and countries.
Divided into five acts, the dance drama tells about the happy story of the love and hate between the characters of half-god, lover, mortal and fairy, and resulting gratitude concerned with the jealous resentment and entanglement with eventual peace and happiness between all lovers. The performance of ten Chinese and Indian dancers, including the choreographers from the two countries, not only showcasd the mystery of the India dance, but also highlighted the unique charm of dance in China. The tradition and the obvious cultural imprint of India dance’s Unity of Dance& Religion were casted into dancer’s bodies with solemn awe, contrasting with Chinese dancers’ free or implicit modern styles. It embodied the whole works with the virtual and real contrast and the obscure mood of the Yin and Yang with last sense of ceremony, reflecting the mutual tolerance and respect of the Chinese and Indian cultures.
