        A study on the mechanical teaching team—building in the context of CDIO

        【Abstract】This paper takes CDIO engineering education philosophy as a guidance, as well as regards the high-level, practical and integrated talents training as the goal.

        CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) engineering education mode is the achievement of international engineering education reform in recent years, and it is an innovative model of foreign higher engineering education. In 2007, the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Finance jointly issued The opinion on implementation of the undergraduate teaching quality and teaching reform project in institutions of higher learning, an important part of it that is to strengthen “construction of teaching team and high-level teachers”. Ministry of Education issued the document Opinions on Further Deepening Teaching Reform and Improving the Undergraduates Teaching Quality, this document stressed on the requirement of “construction of teaching team and cultivation sustainable development team” again. Therefore, the teaching team construction has been become the important content for College to enhance the quality of teachers and improve the level of education which has important practical significance to improve the quality of undergraduate education .

        The Connotation and Characteristics of Teaching Team

        Teaching team in college is that the teacher groups regard courses or course groups for the core, and it carries out teaching research and teaching reform through the collaboration and communication among members, which can improve the overall quality of teachers and teaching sequentially. In fact, in order to strengthen collaboration and communication between teachers, the institutions of higher learning had been done a variety of exploration and practice, such as teaching research, academic team, course process, teaching team, etc. The construction of the teaching team should regard to improve the quality of personnel training as the core, and focus on connotation construction, which includes teaching echelon construction, specialty construction, curriculum construction, practical base construction, etc.

        The first is knowing the goal. Teaching team is the group to improve the level of teaching and the quality of education. Warren Bennis said: In human tissues, the vision is the single most powerful and motivating factor, and it can put different people to participate in it together. The shared vision is aspiration, ideal, and goal accepted by members of the organization, and the shared vision of realizing the educational objective and improving the quality of education bind teachers together, which motivate them to work together for team goals.

        The second is complementary members. From the perspective of teaching team members, they are complementary. Teaching team is not the superposition of highly educated and high degree teachers. And team members are composed of teachers with different age, different gender, and different job, each of them has a different personality, upbringing knowledge structure and direction of research. All of those are conducive to expand thinking, broaden their horizons, as well as strengthen the complementary of the teaching team.

        The third is outstanding performance. There are clear goals between teaching team and effective communication among the teachers. Therefore, they have a great team spirit and strong sense of responsibility to combine the team goals with personal development, which keep their spirit high, and make them has desire of innovation with high work efficiency.

        The key points of Team-building

        1. To strengthen the construction of teaching staff, and improve comprehensive quality

        Allocated special funds every year to send young teachers to the well-known colleges, universities and scientific research institutes in China and abroad to study for a doctorate or postdoctoral work. Bring in the young and middle-aged backbone teachers improve the teaching and academic level of teachers.

        2. Teaching content and curriculum system construction

        Regarding the teaching as fundamental, putting the research as a support, and making the community-oriented as the guiding ideology, which can improve the quality of teaching. The colleges should bring scientific research into the classroom, and take the achievement to the teaching, which can develop the construction of teaching content and courses system. To carry out the construction of teaching contents and curriculum system that base on the existing curriculum system, in order to build a more scientific and rational curriculum system. To carry out the ability evaluation instead of the way of curriculum content and curriculum assessment. Updating the modern education teaching idea, grasping the modern education teaching target, using modern teaching means and scientific teaching methods to established multilevel and comprehensive teaching system.

        3. Textbook construction

        Based on the professional engineering machinery, scientific research and traffic professional characteristics to adapt to the new curriculum goal. Colleges should organized teachers to prepare teaching materials and practical instructions on the basis of study and engineering practice, and strengthen teaching material construction of the “adequate foundation and innovation”.
