On May 6th this year, the National Health and Family Planning Commission of China and 5 other National commissions issued jointly the notice on establishment of a Green Route for donated organ transportation. On May 24th, the press conference for the "launch of the fi rst green route of donated organ transportation by the Chinese civil aviation industry " was held in Guangzhou. China Southern Airlines announced its 24/7 emergency hot line (95539) for human organ donation transportation to guarantee a green route. It also launched its security mechanism for on-site counter process and transportation. As a result, the airline became the fi rst domestic carrier to commit to its social responsibility as a state-owned aviation enterprise. The emergency hot line is 95539, through which passengers can submit their fl ight information and documentation for the air transportation (hospital ID, letter of introduction, cert ifi cate for non-infectious live organ). The airline will then coordinate all relevant departments to help with an ef fi cient organ transportation, including specialists who keep in touch with travellers carrying the donated human organ, punctual fl ight departures, fast boarding and disembarkation for those transported live organs, and priority luggage delivery as well. Passengers can even apply for this service to their departure check-in counters on the day of departure.

On May 24th, China Southern Airlines, National Health Planning Committee, the civil aviation authorities, as well as medical institutes and other agencies signed “the proposal to co-construct the Green Route of donated human organ transportation” jointly to ask all sectors of the society to participate in the construction of this green route, establish a smoother transport platform, and form a social understanding and courtesy towards those who are engaged in donated human organ transportation. China Southern further emphasised its plan to coordinate with major authorities, hospitals, health organisations, airports and fi eld of fi ces of other corporations in the civil aviation industry to build a coordination mechanism for smooth communication and collaboration, and a cooperation model of rapid reaction and special protection. An expert commented that "China Southern Airlines is the pioneer to make such a commitment and initiative. Though it may be more troublesome, even increasing its costs in the service management front, the purpose is noble. ”

As of May 2016, the airline had already successfully transported 75 donated organs .
