Traveling Around the World

We live in a wonderful world.More and more people like traveling around the world.

The UK isagentlemanlike country. London is the capital.It’s famous for Big Ben,TowerBridgeand theBritish Museum.Big Ben is 95 meters tall,Tower Bridge is 244 meters long and the British Museum is over 250 years old.You can see many artworks there.

Everybody knows the USA,it is an open country and the capital is Washington D.C.It is famous for Disneyland and Hollywood.The Disneyland in America is the first theme park in the world.It was opened in 1955.Hollywood is on the west coast.You can see wonderful movies made there.

Howmuch doyouknow about Australia?Sydney is the biggestcity in Australia,but Canberra is the capitalcity.Australia is famous for the Sydney Opera House and Gold Coast.People like visiting the Sydney Opera House.It opened in 1973.Gold Coast is famous for many beautiful beaches.You can swim in the sea and eat seafood on the beaches.

There are so many wonderful places to visit around the world such as the UK,the USA and Australia.Are there any countries you want to visit?

【教學(xué)設(shè)計(jì)】

一、教學(xué)背景分析

學(xué)生之前使用的是《新起點(diǎn)英語》教材，現(xiàn)在使用的是PEP教材。作為山東省的一所名校，我們與多個(gè)國家的多所學(xué)校每年進(jìn)行互訪交流，我校學(xué)生對于世界各國概況和文化有強(qiáng)烈的學(xué)習(xí)需求。加之修訂版PEP教材中“Around the World”的內(nèi)容相對缺乏，所以選擇了以《新起點(diǎn)英語》六（上）Unit 2 Around the World Lesson 3為腳本重新編寫并補(bǔ)充到英語課程中，為更好地進(jìn)行國際交流打好基礎(chǔ)。本課（Traveling Around the World）是一節(jié)以旅行為話題的閱讀課，教學(xué)內(nèi)容包括英國、美國和澳大利亞三國的首都、城市及景點(diǎn)。

二、教學(xué)目標(biāo)

1.知識(shí)與技能目標(biāo)

（1）能夠在語境中理解、聽、說capital,gentleman-like,Hollywood,Canberra等單詞。

（2）能夠用下列句型介紹國家和城市。

...is the capital.It’s famous for...You can...

（3）能夠讀懂教師提供的旅游手冊，小組合作完成本組的旅游手冊。

2.學(xué)習(xí)策略目標(biāo)

（1）能夠掌握掃讀、查讀等閱讀策略，有效獲取文本信息。

（2）能夠借助思維導(dǎo)圖和關(guān)鍵信息對所學(xué)內(nèi)容及相關(guān)話題進(jìn)行梳理、呈現(xiàn)和表達(dá)。

（3）能夠通過自學(xué)和合學(xué)順利完成學(xué)習(xí)任務(wù)。

1.重點(diǎn)：在讀懂教師提供的旅游手冊的基礎(chǔ)上，用下列句型介紹國家和城市：...is the capital.It’s famous for...You can...

2.難點(diǎn)：能夠合作完成本組的旅游手冊并用英語介紹。

四、教學(xué)過程

Step 1.Lead-in導(dǎo)入（啟動(dòng)環(huán)節(jié)）

1.Free talk.

T：Good morning,boys and girls.I bring a globe to you.Look, this is our wonderful earth.You can seetheblue oceans and beautiful lands.There are a lot of countries in the world.Such as...

Ss:China!

T:Yes! Our motherland!Did you go aboard?Where did you go?

S1:I went to the UK.

T:What is the UK famous for?

S1:The London Eye.It’s very beautiful!

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：以自由交談的形式開啟話題。

2.Warm-up.

T:You know something about the countries in the world.Can you tell me the names of the countries as quickly as you can?

What country is it?

I show the students many pictures of famous places,native animals, national sports and traditional food.Ask them to say out the names of the countries as quickly as they can.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：根據(jù)國家特色景物或者事物快速辨別國家，激活舊知。

Step 2.Pre-Reading閱讀前（呈現(xiàn)環(huán)節(jié)）

T:How beautiful! I want to go traveling! Do you want to go traveling?If you want to go traveling,I think a guide book is needed.The guide book is designed for visitors.Show Ss a travel guides book and ask the students to read the title of the book: Traveling Around the World.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：引出文本，文本是以旅游手冊的形式呈現(xiàn)的。

Step 3.While-Reading閱讀中（閱讀理解）

借助五個(gè)任務(wù)引導(dǎo)學(xué)生分層次閱讀文本材料，運(yùn)用掃讀、尋讀等方法幫助學(xué)生獲取信息。

1.Task 1：（1）Read and answer.（任務(wù)一：掃讀全文，獲取關(guān)鍵信息）

T:Can you read this book quickly and tell me：“How many countries can you find?What are they?”寅 the UK,the USA and Australia.

Show them the full names of the 3 countries.

T:Do you know capital?寅capital

Task 1：（2）Read and find out the capitals.寅London,Washington D.C and Canberra.

2.Task 2:（1）Read and underline.（任務(wù)二：精讀UK，生成思維導(dǎo)圖）教師示范畫思維導(dǎo)圖，幫助學(xué)生梳理UK的文段信息。

T：What is the UK famous for?

Ss:It’s famous for Big Ben,Tower Bridgeand theBritish Museum.

T:How tall is Big Ben?How long is Tower Bridge?How old is the British Museum?

Task 2：（2）Read and fill in the blanks.

Big Ben is_____meters tall.

TowerBridge is______meters long.

The British Museum is over_____years old.

T:We can use a mind map to summarize the information about the UK.The country is in the middle.The capitaland famous places are around it.Can you draw a mind-map?

3.Task 3：Read and draw.(Pair work)(任務(wù)三:同位合讀,繪制USA導(dǎo)圖)

Students read and draw the mind maps of the USA.

Ss show their maps and say something about the USA.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：這一任務(wù)體現(xiàn)了由扶到放、內(nèi)化策略的過程。學(xué)生在運(yùn)用圖形、色彩和關(guān)鍵信息繪制導(dǎo)圖的過程中，大腦處于高度興奮的狀態(tài)，對文段的理解更深刻，記憶也更牢固。

4.Task 4:Read and challenge. (任務(wù)四:速讀搶答，反饋閱讀效果)

Ask the students to remember the key points about Australia.Then close their books and answer the questions.

5.Task 5:Choose,read and introduce.（任務(wù)五：小組選讀，輸出文段信息）

Ask the students to work in group of four. Choose one paragraph abouttheirfavorite country and read it loudly.Then try to introduce that country.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：之前的任務(wù)活動(dòng)都是以默讀的形式進(jìn)行，目的是要保證學(xué)生在充足的靜默閱讀時(shí)間內(nèi)有效獲取信息，理解并內(nèi)化語言。本環(huán)節(jié)的任務(wù)則是要求學(xué)生放聲朗讀，以加深其對文本的理解，同時(shí)培養(yǎng)其語音和語調(diào)。

Step 4.Post-Reading閱讀后（應(yīng)用環(huán)節(jié)）

Ask the students to make guide books in groups.Students in each group discuss and confirm one common country and then make a guide book.Then each group shows the book and recommends the country to all the students.

設(shè)計(jì)意圖：設(shè)計(jì)真實(shí)任務(wù)使學(xué)生學(xué)以致用，凸顯語用。學(xué)生通過小組合作選擇自己喜歡的國家制作旅游手冊并展示和推薦給全班同學(xué)，此任務(wù)讓學(xué)生實(shí)際運(yùn)用所學(xué)語言。

Step 5.Ending結(jié)束（教學(xué)小結(jié)）

1.Brief summary.

T:The world is so wonderful.Do you want to go traveling around the world?Don’t forget to take your guide book!

2.Homework.
