        Explanations for the Problems on the Application of English CLT

        【Abstract】The paper points out several problems on the practical application of CLT as for English,which warns the professionals to avoid them.

        Communicative language teaching has certain feasibility and has effected well in the application process.However,it must be with real embarrassment during the specific teaching.Here Id like to analyze the explanations for those embarrassments.

        I. The national examination system

        Examination is usually significant for teacher,learner,and parents that it affects their learning attitudes.In China today,the present leading examinations such as university entrance examination,TEM-4,TEM-8,and even TOFEL,are dominated by structural syllabus,mainly checking learners mastery of language system and a certain skills.

        In real life,examination directs the heading of the whole foreign language teaching like a baton.This can be a reflection of exam-oriented education system,by which teachers,students,and the whole school system persist the principle of teaching and learning what the exam requires.Because of this,teachers have to take the way of eager for quick success and instant benefit,with the results of each examination relating closely to their teaching production.To do a good job in examinations,students have to force themselves to adopt the exam-oriented education system.

        CLT emphasizes not only the structural system of language,but also language functions,paying much attention to learners language communication capability.Obviously it conflicts with the national examination system and is adverse to its comprehensive application.

        II.Deep-rooted impact of traditional teaching methods

        In recent years,the traditional teaching methods are challenged and struck by CLT,with people being endeavoring to probe and attempt on the enhancement of teaching approaches.However,many teachers still cannot throw the traditional methods away objectively,laying stress on traditional grammar translation instead of language skills.

        In traditional teaching methods,the goal of language teaching is to learn the language knowledge but not to use it,so students carefully pursue for accurate grammar structure and proper sentence patterns.And teacher dominates the procedure of class and students learning.Then under the influence of traditional teaching methods,learners have got weak ability of dealing with language.

        III. Unscientific testing system for CLT

        For the moment,we have got no reliable testing system for CLT,with todays examinations to some extent being primarily written form and multiple choices but seldom communicative testing program.This phenomenon is insufficient that it not only couldnt reflect students comprehensive language skills,but also bad orientation to foreign language teaching.Therefore we must create the possible conditions for feasible testing contents and try changing the present way of examination.
