有年過花甲的老者,互相攙扶,在一幅水墨畫作前竊竊私語,絲毫不理會周圍的喧囂,時光自顧自地停留;
有背著旅行包的年輕人,也許是一位剛來杭州旅行的游客,有幸遇到了這場藝術(shù)的盛宴,在欣賞西湖美景的同時也收獲了文藝杭州的感動,相機咔嚓咔嚓拍不完的喜歡;
Joint Art Exhibition Attracts Crowds in Hangzhou
By Zhu Fengjuan
September 8, 2012 witnesses the opening of the First Hangzhou Art Festival at Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum. In the following ten plus days, about 500 artworks from nearly 200 artists from nine cities across China are on display. The joint exhibition of artists from nine cities was staged in the eight cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
The exhibition differs from other art exhibitions in that the artworks are selected by media in preliminary rounds and, unlike avant-garde and other hard-to-understand art styles, the paintings on display represent an aesthetics that appeals to the ordinary Chinese people. The previous exhibitions in the eight cities allured huge crowds in.
Hangzhou is no exception. Visitors, young and old, men and women, flock to the museum to view the broad range of artworks from some best artists across the country.
There are so many visitors for a reason. They read of the exhibition in City Express, a daily newspaper based in Hangzhou.
City Express, the sponsor of the Hangzhou Art Festival, is a high-profile player in the cultural undertakings of the city. Another big event it hosts is West lake Musical Festival in April. The current festival spans September and October, featuring a series of exhibitions, salons, and theme days of individual artists.
The Hangzhou Art Festival is designed to attract the largest visitor crowd. The newspaper wants visitors to come to the joint exhibition of artists from nine cities to find and appreciate art that appeals to them. These artworks are meant to cultivate city residents’ appreciation.
That is why visitors do not see the academic and the esoteric images. The artworks on display are closely associated with popular tastes and inspire interpretations. Visitors see no subjects that are beyond and above them, and encounter no techniques that puzzle them or turn them away. There are only artworks of everyday life; visitors relate to and respond to these paintings with enthusiasm.
Children are a big crowd at the exhibition. Parents are most willing to bring them along. Many parents bring their children to see the exhibition largely because they read somewhere that visiting a gallery or a museum is part of a weekend routine for many children in the west. In Hangzhou, parents are willing to get their children into art training courses but they rarely find good exhibitions for their children to see. That is because there are not many around. No wonder the exhibition attracts so many parents and their children.
