London Olympics is coming.People also often talk about the mascots Wenlock and Mandeville.A short film in the BBC program uncovered the mysterious veil of the mascots.The workers were hard at work for the construction of the Olympic venue in the steelworks (煉鋼廠).At the moment of the steel columns out of the stove(爐)，two drops of steel fell on the ground.An old worker picked up two cooling and caky (凝固的) steel blocks home，carved into two elves(精靈) with a big eye.London Olympic mascots were born.

倫敦奧運(yùn)會(huì)即將來臨，吉祥物文洛克和曼德維爾也為人們津津樂道。BBC 節(jié)目中的一個(gè)短片揭開了吉祥物的神秘面紗。工人們正在煉鋼廠為奧運(yùn)會(huì)場館的建設(shè)努力工作，在鋼柱出爐的剎那，兩滴鋼水落在地上。老工人將兩個(gè)冷卻凝固的鋼塊撿回家，雕琢成了兩個(gè)長著一只大眼睛的精靈，倫敦奧運(yùn)會(huì)吉祥物就此誕生。

As for the origin of the mascots’name，the London Olympic Organizing Committee has given the explanation.The mascot Wenlock was from Much Wenlock.The Wenlock Olympic games was held there.And this ancient race was one of the inspirations of the father of the modern Olympic Games Coubertin creating the modern Olympic Games.To commemorate (紀(jì)念) the Wenlock Olympic Games，people decided to name the London Olympic mascot as Wenlock.

至于吉祥物名字的由來，倫敦奧組委給出了解釋。吉祥物文洛克來自于馬齊文洛克。那里曾舉辦過文洛克奧倫匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)，而這項(xiàng)古老的賽事正是現(xiàn)代奧運(yùn)之父顧拜旦創(chuàng)造現(xiàn)代奧林匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)的靈感來源之一。為了紀(jì)念文洛克奧林匹克運(yùn)動(dòng)會(huì)，倫敦奧運(yùn)會(huì)決定將吉祥物命名為“文洛克”。

The name of the London Paralympic mascot Mandeville is inspired by Stoke Mandeville.In 1940s，Dr.Gutman Storck established spinal cord (脊 髓) department in Mandeville hospital，which helped the veteran (退役軍人) hurt by spinal cord disease.At that time there was no good medical means(手段)，so Dr.Gutmann encouraged them to achieve (達(dá)到) the purpose (目的) of recovering through taking part in sports.Subsequently (隨后)，this kind of sports is considered to be the forerunner (先驅(qū)) of modern paralympics.

倫敦殘奧會(huì)吉祥物的名字曼德維爾則是受到了斯托克曼德維爾的啟發(fā)。在上世紀(jì)40年代，古特曼醫(yī)生在斯托克曼德維爾醫(yī)院建立了脊髓科，幫助受到脊髓疾病傷害的退役軍人。當(dāng)時(shí)并沒有很好的醫(yī)療手段，所以古特曼醫(yī)生鼓勵(lì)他們通過參加體育運(yùn)動(dòng)達(dá)到康復(fù)目的。隨后，這樣的體育運(yùn)動(dòng)被認(rèn)為是現(xiàn)代殘奧會(huì)的先行者。

There are yellow marks on the heads of the mascots.This is from London’s symbolic taxi.In fact，there is photographic function (功能)in their big eyes，to witness every place they go and the people they meet.Wenlock wears Olympic friendship Bracelet (手環(huán)).Mandeville has a stopwatch to help preserve (保存) the sports achievements (成績).

在吉祥物的頭上還有黃燈標(biāo)志，這是來自于倫敦的標(biāo)志性出租車。他們的大眼睛還有照相功能，目的是見證他們每一個(gè)去過的地方和見過的人。文洛克手上戴有奧運(yùn)友誼手環(huán)，曼德維爾則有秒表，幫助保存運(yùn)動(dòng)成績。

The mascots of London Olympic Games are full of imagination，rich in ultramodern (超現(xiàn)代化的) feeling.And the meanings hidden behind them also reflect(反映) the respect and hope of the people in London to the Olympics.Although the emblem of the.012 Olympics has been criticized for being too abstract，the cute mascots make the international Olympic Committee very satisfied.They will also become the symbol of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

倫敦奧運(yùn)會(huì)的吉祥物充滿了想象力，富有超現(xiàn)代的感覺，而他們背后所蘊(yùn)藏的含義也體現(xiàn)了倫敦人民對奧運(yùn)會(huì)的尊重和憧憬。雖然2012 奧運(yùn)會(huì)的會(huì)徽一直被認(rèn)為過于抽象而遭到批評(píng)，但這一次吉祥物的可愛卻讓國際奧委會(huì)非常滿意，他們也將成為2012 倫敦奧運(yùn)會(huì)的象征。
