David MeConnell sold books door to door. Housewives were not in-terested in the books and frequently(經(jīng)常) slammed (使勁關(guān)) thedoor in MeConnell's face before he had a chance to make his sale. In-stead of giving up, MeConnell decided to give away a free gift, a smallvial (小瓶) of perfume (香水) , which he made himself. He soon dis-covered that the women preferred (寧愿要) the perfume to the books. He stopped selling books and created his own company Avon, which isa great success.
