Videogame-to-movie adaptations have a poor record. German director Uwe Boll became infamous as \"the worst director in the world\" for his terrible film versions of such gaming hits as Dungeon Siege and Alone in the Dark， but even films with better directors， such as 1993's Super Mario Bros or 2002's Resident Evil have been mediocre at best. Now a new， high-profile adaption of the hit PC game Max Payne has come along.

The original 2001 game， made by a Finnish gaming team， featured hard-boiled cop Max Payne seeking to avenge the deaths of his family， along with a dark， almost parodic noir narration and slyly funny background humour. The sequel， 2003's The Fall of Max Payne， provided more of the same， along with beautifully styled characters modelled after real actors. The games sold over seven million copies worldwide. Is this the one to break the trend?

The answer， sadly， is no. Max Payne is another average-at-best film which does very little with its material. Stylistically， it copies the faded noir mood of the game， but the acting is poor. Mark Wahlburg， who can spark as part of an acting ensemble， as he did in The Departed， comes across as brutish and boring when pushed into a starring role， as he is here as Max Payne. The rest of the cast， including Beau Bridges phoning-in his performance as the main villain and young actress Mila Kunis as Max's love interest， Mona Sax， fill out the screen but the film never comes alive.

Unforgivably， the action sequences are limited and unspectacular. Rather than the all-out action of the game， the film is mostly a plodding detective story， with Max bringing out the guns only at the start and end of the movie. The original game drew acclaim for its innovative use of \"Bullet Time，\" where players could slow down the action at crucial moments， and the film copies this， but by now it looks stale and unoriginal. Max becomes invovled in a complicated plot involving supersoldier drugs， Norse mythology， and government conspiracy， but the story is muddled and unclear， with numerous plot holes. Definitely one to avoid.

不可原諒的是，片中動作是那樣拘泥毫無新意，不像游戲中那樣被展現(xiàn)得淋漓盡致。影片多半是在講述一個單調(diào)乏味的偵探故事，而馬克思只在片頭和片尾才抄起了槍。原版游戲因獨具匠心地采用在關(guān)鍵時刻玩家可以放慢速度的“子彈時間”模式而受到熱捧，改版的影片也沿襲了這一特點，不過現(xiàn)在這已經(jīng)變得陳腐毫無新意。馬克思被卷入一場涉及毒品、北歐神話和政府陰謀的復(fù)雜的事件中。但是故事情節(jié)混亂不清，漏洞百出。最好不要看。
