Early one evening in 1976 people in northeasternItaly were all asking the same question: What was wrong with their cats? Many pets were running around， scratching1 on doors， and yowling (慘叫，嚎叫)to go out.Once out，they didn't come back (except for mother cats， who returned to get their kittens2.Then，later that day， a major earthquake hit!

Cats may feel very early vibrations(震動(dòng)) or sense (覺(jué)察到) the increase in static electricity (靜電) that occurs before a quake. Whatever they' re sensing， it's one more reason to pay attention to your cat.
