When I was about 11 years old, one day, I was at my friend Jennys house after school, and we were doing homework. While I was there a friend of Jennys mom came over to visit.

I dont remember her name or __1__ what her face looked like. I just remember her __2__, her voice and the lesson she taught me.

I can still see her hands reaching out for mine in our __3__. They were so beautiful, I thought. Then I heard her saying,not at all in a condescending(居高臨下) manner. “Oh no, that is NOT __4__you shake hands. Let me show you how.”

After that, I just remember her voice explaining the __5__ of a good handshake, __6__ a positive sense of __7__, looking the other person in the eye, making that first moment __8__ …I think in that exchange I first understood __9__.

兩次得癌癥，兩次都存活下來(lái)，并通過(guò)征服世界上的高山來(lái)鼓舞其他癌癥患者。這就是本文要講述的主人公。

Im actually the first (and only) cancer survivor to summit（登頂） the worlds highest mountain—Mt. Everest. When I was only 13, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins disease and given three months to__1__. When 15, I was diagnosed with Askins Sarcoma. The __2__ was much worse as the doctors gave me only two weeks to live. __3__, I survived.

Being the __4__ person in the world to have ever had these two cancers, I really felt I should __5__ my story to help motivate others and __6__ lives. On May 16th, 2002 at 9:32am, I became the first cancer __7__ to summit Mt. Everest.

Since then, I have been __8__ enough to reach the summits of three more of the worlds seven highest peaks and have spoken __9__ about my life and __10__ to countless people and organizations. On the summit of Everest __11__ a flag adorned（點(diǎn)綴） with names of people who have been __12__ by cancer and left it on the top of the world forever in honor of the __13__ of cancer patients worldwide.
