Marc Jacobs (born April 9， 1963 in New York City) is an American fashion designer. After graduating from the High School of Art and Design in 1981 he entered Parsons School of Design. At Parsons， Jacobs won the Perry Ellis Gold ThimbleAward in 1984， and in the same year was also awarded the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year Award.

Jacobs' first collection was hand-knit sweaters produced by Charivari， the New York clothing store where he worked as stock boy. Fatefully， those sweaters earned him the Perry Ellis Golden Thimble Award at Parsons. He designed Sketchbook for Ruben Thomas through the fall of 1985. There he created a memorable collection based on the film Amadeus. In 1986 he began designing his own label， first with backing from Jack Atkins and later from Onward Kashiyama. In 1987， Jacobs received the distinct honor of being the youngest designer to be awarded the fashion industries highest tribute: The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent.

Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy joined Tristan Russo in 1989. Robert as the President and Marc as the Vice-President of women's design to create the designer collection and in addition， he oversaw the design of the various women's licensees. In 1992， the Council of Fashion Designers of America， once again bestowed Jacobs with a great honor: The Women's Designer of the Year Award.

In 1994， Jacobs， along with his business partner Robert Duffy， launched his highly anticipated line onto the Catwalk for the first time on his 31st birthday. He created quite a stir when the $10，000-a-day supermodel gang.

In 1997， Jacobs was appointed creative director of Louis Vuitton. His first collection for the Parisian house saw models in white minimalist pieces devoid of accessories or the even the famous LV logo. For spring 2000， Jacobs offered simple pleated trousers in lightweight wool adorned with bead-lined pockets and fabulous swirly prints in 1960s colors that transform a low-key office dress into a sexy diva frock。In 2001， Jacobs launched his more affordable diffusion line， Marc. By 2003， Jacobs's company offered a full range of products from perfume to accessories and shoes， and he had opened flagship stores on both coasts of the United States.

In Spring 2004 and 2005， when designers were following the \"safari theme\"， he made his collection completely lady-like and the catwalk which the models walked on had an archway of 450，000 roses. Jacobs' Fall 2005 collection received sharply mixed reviews. In 2006， his clothes was said that \"feature classic and timeless aesthetics with a slightly vintage feel\" and were available in a few boutiques around the world including Boston， New York， Los Angeles， San Francisco， Paris， Tokyo Hong Kong， Taipei，and so on. In 2007， he was ranked as 8th on Out magazine list of \"50 Most Powerful Men in America\".
