英國(guó)近代兩位文法大師Jocobs與Rosendbaum合著的EnglishTransformational Grammar為我們提供了有史以來最多解法的一句話：

The seniors were told to stop demonstrating on campus.

這句話有六種解釋法：

(1)The seniors were demonstrating and were asked，on campus，to desist．高年級(jí)的學(xué)生在示威，校方在校園要求他們停止示威。

(2)The seniors were demonstrating and were asked to desist oncampus (although they could demonstrate elsewhere)．高年級(jí)學(xué)生在示威，校方要求他們停止在校園中示威(但可在其他地方示威)。

(3)The seniors were demonstrating On campus and were asked to desst.L高年級(jí)的學(xué)生在校園示威，校方叫他們停止示威。

(4)People were demonstrating On campus，and seniors wereasked to stop them．有人在校園中示威，高年級(jí)生被要求去制止他們。

(5)People were demonstrating and seniors were asked，on campus，to stop them．有人在示威，高年級(jí)生在校園中被要求去制止他們。

Family

Family一詞源自拉丁語famulus，是“家仆”之意。所謂“住家男人”，有譯作family man者，指愛做家務(wù)之男性，正合famulus原來的意思。

住家男人又稱house-husband，亦作：New man(這大概是“新時(shí)代男人”之意。新時(shí)代男女平等，男人做家務(wù)理所當(dāng)然)。 Family又作“名門”解，例如：He is a man of family。指他系出名門，意思和He is a family man不同。英語有：It is a poor familythat has neither (a) whore nor (a) thief。家系中既無娼妓又無盜賊者是可悲的，意思說任何家系中都有為非作歹者，名門亦不例外。

沒有家人的單身漢，成語中以：His hat covers his family喻之，全部家族都在他一頂帽子下面也。作家族或家庭解時(shí)指有子女者。因此說：They have started a family。指他們兩人結(jié)婚已有子女。Does she have a family?問的是她有孩子嗎。Be in the(或a)familyway是女人妊娠的委婉說法。He put the girl in the family way。他令那姑娘有了身孕也。(阿五)

DINK：丁克家庭

系Dual income，No Kids的縮寫，指有兩份工資不要孩子的雙職工家庭(Couples with dual income and nO kids)亦作Dinkie或Dinky。DINKs havemore disposable income than the averagefamily．丁克家庭可靈活支配的收入比一般家庭多。

bitch goddess：女財(cái)神

高高在上、不停抱怨、姿色不錯(cuò)的女人(The stereotype of a dominating，complaining，beautiful woman)。Despitepop star Madonna‘s constant imagechanges，she consistently seems to portraythe role of bitch goddess盡管流行歌星麥當(dāng)娜不斷變換形象，但她似乎總是以女財(cái)神的角色出現(xiàn)。
