After 10 years of difficult talks， nearly 200 countries agreed2 to a newUnited Nations （UN） treaty to protect the worlds oceans. The worlds oceanshave a lot of problems. Countries talked about the treaty for so many years. Oneof the problems was that most oceans didnt belong3 to anyone， and no law4protected them. The most important reason why it took so long to finish the treatywas economic interests5. The new treaty， which is called the“High Seas Treaty”，starts a plan to protect 30% of the open oceans by 2030.

經過10 年的艱難談判，近200 個國家同意了一項保護全世界海洋的聯(lián)合國新條約。全世界的海洋面臨著很多問題。各國就該條約談判多年，其中一個問題是大多數海洋不屬于任何人，也沒有法律保護它們。花了這么長時間才完成條約，最重要的原因是經濟利益問題。這項被稱為“公海條約”的新條約啟動了一項計劃，到2030 年為止要為30%的公海提供保護。
