Further Establishing the Disciplinary Positioning of the Studies of New China History:Studying the Essence of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Congratulatory Letter to the Association of National History of the People’s Republic of China：Xi Jin-ping’s congratulatory letter to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Association of National History of the People’s Republic of China on Dec.8,2022 pointed out the direction for the development of the studies of New China history and put forward higher requirements for the academic circles of PRC history to further enhance their competence and play more social roles.For researchers of PRC history,thoroughly studying and implementing the essence of General Secretary Xi Jin-ping’s congratulatory letter should be reflected in both political orientation and academic work.The important prerequisite for the studies of New China history as a basic and emerging discipline is to establish its disciplinary positioning,with the purpose of accelerating the construction of its “three systems”.We should keep a firm foothold on the historiographical attributes of PRC history,base ourselves on the current positioning as a sub-discipline of Chinese history,concentrate on promoting the prosperity and development of the undertakings of researching,publicizing and teaching New China history,and actively give full play to the roles of the studies of New China history as advisor,educator and guardian,so as to contribute the wisdom and strength of the workers in the field of PRC history to the comprehensive construction of a modernized socialist country and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.(Zhu Jia-mu)

Zhou En-lai’s Thoughts and Explorations of China’s Modernization：China’s Modernization is the unremitting pursuit of generations of Chinese Communists and the long-cherished wish of Zhou En-lai,the founding premier of new China.Since his adolescence,Zhou En-lai has harbored the ambition of “studying for the rise of China” and the dream of “meeting when China soars in the world”.On the eve of the founding of New China,he put forward the goal of “modernizing the country with great efforts”.After the founding of the PRC,Zhou En-lai,together with Mao Ze-dong and others,set the development goal of the “four modernizations”,put forward the principle of integrating all aspects of modernization “in a coordinated manner”,and initiated the “two-step” arrangement for strategic development,which established the CPC’s tradition of promoting the construction of a modernized socialist country through strategic planning.In order to realize the goal of modernization,Zhou En-lai also put forward a series of specific ideas and development initiatives.It is safe to say that there would be no Chinese-style modernization today but for the pioneering exploration led by Mao Ze-dong,Zhou En-lai and other Chinese communists.(Yang Ming-wei)

Mao Ze-dong on the “Struggle” of Chinese Communists: Ideological Connotations and Value Implications：In Mao Ze-dong’s view,the Chinese Communists were committed to the social practice of transforming society,nature and themselves,which entailed struggles to “transform the relations of production and the superstructure”,to “fight against nature and transform China”,and to maintain the Party’s advanced nature and purity through self-reform.Mao Ze-dong stressed that work equaled struggle and required a “spirit of struggle”,which mainly consisted of struggle awareness,the courage to struggle,the confidence to struggle,and valiant striving.He regarded daring to struggle and being good at struggle as the unity of worldview and methodology,pointed out that the correct policy and strategy of struggle was crucial to the Party,and put forward a series of principles,requirements and methods of being good at struggle.(Yang Jun)
