Online eating shows， or Mukbang， originated in South Korea and have gained popularity globally.

Many hosts of such shows become popular for their ability to eat large amounts of food. But these shows have also received criticism for their waste of food. While some hosts actually do consume the amount of food shown， others may be faking it.

CCTV once exposed several hosts who were pretending to eat large amounts of food while on camera， but actually later threw it away.

To discourage this practice， many video and live streaming platforms， including Douyin， Kuaishou and Bilibili， have removed videos that show food waste， and have promoted messages to “stop food waste and eat reasonably”.

In June 2020， the United Nations warned that the world is on the verge of the worst food crisis in 50 years.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations， about a third of the worlds food—about 1.3 billion tons—is wasted every year. In China alone， many tons of food ends up in landfills every year， according to Beijing News.

Thus， campaigns against food waste have to be further promoted.

According to China Daily， restaurants and catering associations in more than 18 provinces and all 4 municipal cities have issued guidelines to control food waste.

In Shaanxi province， local restaurants have been asked to serve half portions to avoid waste. The Wuhan Catering Association proposed that restaurants adopt the “N-1 mode”. For example， a group of 10 diners should only order enough for 9 people at first. More food is only brought to the table if required.

In addition， a nationwide “Clear Your Plate” campaign has been launched online. Users of Sina Weibo are encouraged to share photos or videos of empty plates after finishing their meals.

Meanwhile， new laws are also being considered， according to China Daily. “We will make new laws that give clear instructions on avoiding food waste，” said Zhang Guilong from the Legislative Affairs Committee of the National Peoples Congress. The instructions will be detailed in every part of food production， purchasing， storage， transportation， processing and consumption， according to Zhang.

聯(lián)合國(guó)糧食及農(nóng)業(yè)組織稱，全球每年約有三分之一（約13億噸）的糧食遭到浪費(fèi)。據(jù)《新京報(bào)》報(bào)道，僅中國(guó)每年也有極多糧食最終進(jìn)了垃圾填埋場(chǎng)。

由此，制止糧食浪費(fèi)的活動(dòng)必須進(jìn)一步推廣。

據(jù)《中國(guó)日?qǐng)?bào)》報(bào)道，超過(guò)18個(gè)省以及4個(gè)直轄市的餐館與餐飲協(xié)會(huì)都發(fā)出了制止食物浪費(fèi)的倡議。

在陜西省，當(dāng)?shù)氐牟宛^被要求推出半份菜，從而避免浪費(fèi)。武漢餐飲協(xié)會(huì)倡議餐廳推行“N-1點(diǎn)餐模式”。比如，10位進(jìn)餐客人一開(kāi)始點(diǎn)9個(gè)人的菜，不夠再增加菜品。

此外，我國(guó)還在互聯(lián)網(wǎng)上發(fā)起了“光盤(pán)行動(dòng)”的活動(dòng)。新浪微博的用戶被邀請(qǐng)分享自己用餐完畢的空盤(pán)照片和視頻。

據(jù)《中國(guó)日?qǐng)?bào)》報(bào)道，與此同時(shí)，相關(guān)新法規(guī)的立法工作已納入規(guī)劃?！拔覀儠?huì)對(duì)制止餐飲浪費(fèi)行為做出具體明確的規(guī)定?！眮?lái)自全國(guó)人大常委會(huì)法制工作委員會(huì)的張桂龍表示。張桂龍介紹稱，規(guī)定將會(huì)對(duì)食品生產(chǎn)、采購(gòu)、儲(chǔ)存、運(yùn)輸、加工、消費(fèi)等各個(gè)環(huán)節(jié)進(jìn)行詳細(xì)說(shuō)明。
