In the 4th issue of Chinese Viewing Stone magazine in 2006 and the 8th as well as 9th issue of Treasure magazine in 2012, there were two articles written by the author. They are "On the Scientific View of Viewing Stones" and "Introduction to the Scientific View of Viewing stones". In the two articles, the author systematically discussed the subject, object, nature, significance, connotation, principles and methods of appreciating viewing stones.

In order to adapt to the new development and change of the culture of viewing stones, the author thinks it is necessary to make a new discussion on the theory of scientific view of appreciating stones. On the basis of the original paper, this paper refines the concept of "eight functions", "nine elements" and "ten methods" as the basic connotation of the scientific concept of stone appreciation, hoping that all the friends in the stone circles will jointly explore and help the development of stone appreciation cultural practice.

Stone appreciation refers to the practice of stone appreciation culture, which is the core of stone appreciation culture. The view of stone appreciation is a basic viewpoint formed by people's appreciation of viewing stones under the control of a certain world outlook. The scientific view of appreciating stones refers to appreciating viewing stones under the guidance of epistemology and methodology of dialectical materialism. It is the "steering wheel" of practical activities and the "golden key" to open the door of appreciation of stones. This paper puts forward the concept of "eight functions", "nine elements" and "ten methods" as the main connotation of the concept of scientific stone appreciation, discusses and interprets the basic problems of why, what and how to appreciate stones. It advocates stone people-oriented,scientific appreciation of stones, accurate appreciation elements, scientific methods, brave practice,diligent summary, and constantly improve the quality and level of stone appreciation.
