Naias to return in full force in 2021
The North American International Auto Show, Naias for short, has been called off. The show was due to return with a new concept from June 9 to 20 – with test drives, a festival and more inner-city focus. This is now not going to happen. Because the situation in the US has become very serious due to the fast spread of the corona virus, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has decided to postpone the event by a year: The TCF Center, in which part of the show was going to be held, is to be converted into a field hospital for COVID-19 patients for at least six months. Naias, aka the Detroit Motor Show, will now take place in June 2021.
SISO virtual town hall addresses challenges
The Society of Independent Show Organizers had to cancel its annual SISO CEO Summit, which gathers executives from the for-profit global trade show industry. To discuss the current challenges of independent show organisers, SISO held a virtual Town Hall on March 31 with panellists Greg Topalian, Clarion/UX; Douglas Emslie, Tarsus Group; Herve Sedky, Reed Americas; Cassandra Farrington, MJBizCon.
SISOs executive director David Audrain moderated the session and stated,"SISO feels strongly, now more than ever, we need to come together as a community, share our experiences and pivots, and get answers to burning questions." All the panellists companies have events that are impacted by COVID-19 with the general consensus being to postpone wherever possible and not to cancel. Overall, attendees and exhibitors are understanding and supportive of the decisions to postpone.
However, once trade shows will be allowed to take place again, it is expected to be difficult to get the slots for all the postponed shows. Suppliers are hit hard by the crisis. Accordingly, organisers are currently assessing how crucial which supplier is for the success of their shows.

Vancouver Convention Centre prepares for Utilization as an Alternative Care Site
As part of the B.C. Pandemic Provincial Coordination Plan and in support of the Government of British Columbia, the Vancouver Convention Centre is working with Vancouver Coastal Health and other key partners to prepare its West building for utilization as an Alternative Care Site should it be required.
The Alternate Care Site will be a province-wide resource. It will add more bed capacity for lower acuity, nonCOVID-19 patients to allow additional capacity within regional hospitals for critically ill COVID-19 patients who may need access to critical care units.
The team of Vancoucer Convention Centre is proud to work with the Government of British Columbia and Vancouver Coastal Health to support British Columbians during this unprecedented situation, and they are committed to ensuring the health and safety of every person within the facility.
