At night, the bright lines of different lengths arranged in an orderly manner on the deep blue fa?ade look like dancing lines of the music stave and a gigantic logo featuring a guitar greets everyone.
Located on the north side of Golf Avenue, the construction is laid out in a straight line. From west to east, there are three entrances. The first one is for logistics, which is connected to the logistics service of the hotel through the internal service access on the south side of the site. The middle one is for office and exhibition purposes, while the third one is the entrance to the hotel, which forms an independent loop with the entrance and exit of the underground parking lot for guests, thus affectively dividing traffic flows into and out of the hotel. The hotel tower has 22 floors, whereas the podium has three floors and the office building has 16 floors. Given that the site is a narrow plot, there are three floors underground, with the 1st basement for supporting facilities and the 2nd and 3rd basements for parking.
As it’s the only high-rise building in the area, the architects wanted to combine the architectural language with the visual experience of rock music through refinement and abstraction, and represent it through the facade of the building that looks like a musical notation. The overall shape of the hotel communicates a sense of art and freedom through the contrast between the wrapping of folded panels versus the glass curtain walls.
The deluxe presidential suite on the roof features a borderless swimming pool, with no obstructed view of the entire golf club. The enclosure materials adopted include modern beige stone and glass curtain walls to communicate an avant-garde feeling of fashion, which, supported by the varied architectural forms, makes the suite a landmark of the project. The fa?ade design of the office building echoes with that of the hotel, and present interesting variations through changes of glass curtain walls.
Different from W Hotel’s nightclub style and Indigo Hotel’s neighborhood culture, Hard Rock Hotel highlights rock music as the central element, and advocates a spiritual immersion in and passion for rock music. The architects hoped to present a hotel building that has a unique style while retaining the cultural tradition of Hard Rock. They wanted the hotel to appear cool and avant-garde in the eyes of the guests, and the user experience to be comfortable and modern. All those seemingly contradictory elements are perfectly integrated by the architects to present the best state of architecture.
As the first Hard Rock Hotel in mainland China, Shenzhen Hard Rock Hotel can make you feel the sparks of heavy metal. Compared with conventional hotels, it is more about “inner empathy”, which may come from a change of lifestyle or a challenge from interpersonal interaction. Correspondingly, more spaces for empathy is required to meet people’s needs to let out emotions amid pressures of living in the city. It’s in those spaces for empathy that one can find ingenious ideas of the architects. Guests can enjoy classical Hard Rock dishes at the restaurant decorated with vinyl records and colorful punk-styled screens; they can also indulge in drinks and live music in the dark golden space featuring warm colors and cold lights from the bar. Rock elements in the architectural spaces allow guests to immerse themselves in the world of rock music to find moments of escape from the bustling daily life the minute they enter the hotel lobby.
