It was the day that Farmer Duff waited for all year： It was Family Sunday！The kids came into the farm as soon as the doors opened. They fed the goats. They rode the horses. They watched the pigs.

這一天，農(nóng)民達(dá)夫已經(jīng)等了整整一年了。這天就是周末家庭日！孩子們門(mén)一開(kāi)就來(lái)到農(nóng)場(chǎng)，他們喂山羊，騎馬，看小豬。

Everyone left， then all the animals went to sleep. Everything was quite， and sudden...Boom！

所有人都離開(kāi)了，然后動(dòng)物們?nèi)ニX(jué)。一切都很安靜，突然……嘣！

Something jumped from the ceiling2 into the hay3. The dog started barking4 loudly and the chickens ran into each other. Then， the little one started moving. It had the little jacket and a very tall top hat.

有個(gè)東西從天花板掉到了干草堆里面。狗狗們開(kāi)始大聲吠叫，小雞們互相亂撞。然后，有個(gè)小家伙在動(dòng)，它穿著夾克，戴著一頂高高的帽子。

“Please excuse me. Give me just a minute and Ill try to fix5 it，” said the little one.

“打擾了，請(qǐng)給我一分鐘，我會(huì)努力修好它。”這個(gè)小家伙說(shuō)。

Then， he took an old wooden spoon out from his jacket. He waved6 it at the ceiling and said， “Ba La Ba La！” And with that， the ceiling was fixed， just like new.

然后，它從夾克里面取出一根舊的木勺，朝天花板一揮，嘴里念著“巴拉巴拉！”，然后天花板就修好了，像新的一樣。

“Where did you come from？” asked the sheep.

“你從哪里來(lái)？”綿羊問(wèn)道。

“How did you do that！” said the dog.

“你是怎么做到的？”小狗問(wèn)。

“I am from France and I lived in a zoo.”

“我來(lái)自法國(guó)，我住在一個(gè)動(dòng)物園里?！?/p>

About this time， the blue bird came to see what had made all the noise. She sat high up on the windows and watched below. “Thats all well and good，” said the bird. “But who are you？”

這時(shí)候，一只藍(lán)色的鳥(niǎo)飛過(guò)來(lái)看是什么發(fā)出的聲音，它坐在窗子的高處朝下面看?！澳钦娴氖翘昧?，”這只鳥(niǎo)說(shuō)，“但是你是誰(shuí)呢？”

“My name is Ferret，” he said.

“我的名字叫費(fèi)瑞德?！彼f(shuō)。

“I have arrived here for a long time and I take a kind of food for you， the greatest you will eat！”

“我花了很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間才到達(dá)這里，我還為你們帶來(lái)了一種食物，那會(huì)是你們吃過(guò)的最美味的食物。”

And with a wave of his spoon over the large hat， he shouted， “Ba La Ba La！”

它把勺子朝大帽子上一揮，嘴里喊道：“巴拉巴拉！”

There was a kind of food in the hat that smelled delicious to every animal. The animals came up to the hat one by one. “I dont think its OK to eat from this Ferrets hat，” said the blue bird. “We should know what is in that food before we eat it.” But no one listened.

帽子里面有一種食物，聞著很香，足以吸引所有動(dòng)物。小動(dòng)物們一個(gè)接一個(gè)來(lái)到帽子面前。那只藍(lán)色的鳥(niǎo)說(shuō)：“我認(rèn)為我們直接吃費(fèi)瑞德帽子里面的食物不太好，我們應(yīng)該在吃之前先弄明白里面是什么?！钡菦](méi)有人聽(tīng)。

“Its delicious！” said the horse， pigs， and the dog.

“太美味了！”小狗、小馬還有小豬們異口同聲地說(shuō)。

“The best Ive ever had. Its good！” cried the dog. “Can you make us some more？”

“這是我吃過(guò)最美味的食物，太好吃了！”小狗喊道，“你能再給我一些嗎？”

“Of course， I can！Ill bring more as soon as I can. But I need to take checks7 or cash.”

“當(dāng)然，我可以的！我可以給你更多食物，但是你需要給我支票或者現(xiàn)金。”

All the animals looked at each other. “But we have no money，” said the dog. Ferret didnt say a word. He just shakes8 his head. Then， he put the spoon back in his jacket and he walked towards the door.

小動(dòng)物們面面相覷，“但是我們沒(méi)有錢(qián)，”小狗說(shuō)。費(fèi)瑞德沒(méi)有說(shuō)話，只是搖搖頭。然后，它把勺子放回到夾克里面，朝門(mén)口走去。

“But we have food，” said the horse in a soft little voice. Ferret stopped and scratched9 at his head.

“但是我們有食物，”小馬用溫柔的聲音說(shuō)道。費(fèi)瑞德停了下來(lái)，撓撓頭。

“Ill give you a trade. Ill tell you all how this food can be made，” said the Ferret.

費(fèi)瑞德說(shuō)：“我跟你們做一個(gè)交易，我會(huì)告訴你們這種食物是怎么做出來(lái)的?！?/p>

The blue bird tried to stop them， but it was too late. “That deal is bad！Ba La Ba La！” Ferret said.

這只藍(lán)色的鳥(niǎo)試圖阻止他們，但是已經(jīng)太晚了。費(fèi)瑞德說(shuō)：“這個(gè)交易不太好！巴拉巴拉！”

With a flash， Ferret was gone. He took all the grain10， apples， carrots， chickenfeed11， and the hay. Nobody knows that how he carried it all off. All that was left was a note. The dog picked it up and read it： Carrots， apples， chickenfeed， and hay will be the delicious food.

隨著一道閃光，費(fèi)瑞德消失了。它帶走了所有的糧食、胡蘿卜、蘋(píng)果、雞食，還有干草。沒(méi)有人知道它是怎么一次性帶走這些東西的。它只留下了一張紙條，小狗撿起來(lái)讀道：“胡蘿卜加蘋(píng)果，加雞食，加干草，可以做成這種美味的食物?！?/p>

The animals looked around for the ingredients12， but there wasnt any food left. Knowing what a bad mistake they had made， they cried themselves to sleep.

小動(dòng)物們到處尋找食材，但是這里已經(jīng)什么食物都沒(méi)有了。知道自己犯下了嚴(yán)重錯(cuò)誤以后，它們哭泣著睡著了。

The next morning， Farmer Duff saw that all the food was gone. He couldnt imagine13 how they had eaten all of the food on the farm in one night. He spent the whole afternoon buying food from the market. The animals worked all day without anything to eat， but not the blue bird.

第二天早晨，農(nóng)民達(dá)夫發(fā)現(xiàn)所有的糧食都不見(jiàn)了。他無(wú)法想象它們是怎么在一夜之間吃完這所有食物的。他一整個(gè)下午都在集市采購(gòu)糧食，動(dòng)物們也餓著肚子工作了一整天，除了那只藍(lán)色的鳥(niǎo)。

When all the animals were tired and hungry， the farmer gave them the scraps14 he could find at the market. Then， the blue bird asked all the animals， “How does it taste？” “Good！” they happily answered. And they ate till they were full.

當(dāng)所有的動(dòng)物都又累又餓時(shí)，農(nóng)夫把他在市場(chǎng)上能找到的殘羹剩飯給了它們吃。藍(lán)色的鳥(niǎo)問(wèn)小動(dòng)物們：“味道怎么樣？”小動(dòng)物們高興地說(shuō)：“好吃！”它們一直吃，直到肚子飽了為止。
