The excitement of this new changeweighted downthe tiredness of the tiring nine-hour flight. The British accents (口音) were music to my ears! The roads were so empty, traffic was so organized, open spaces were everywhere, so few people were on the streets—what a side-by-side position different from where I came—Mumbai. But I was happy, I wasenjoying every moment to the life.

I boarded my bus for my university town with Joni Mitchell plugged in my ears. It all seemed so fantastic. Ifelt likeI had been taken into a fairytale book—the small houses, the quiet streets and the well-dressed people among other things.

Speaking of“small”and“dainty”, the first rude shock was my accommodation! I mean you enter, and there, it's over already! It waskind ofannoying in a funny way.

And university began! I really loved the first day. I've metso manypeople from countries whose names I didn't even know, all living together, eating together, studying together and drinking together!

It made me sadas well,sad that I didn't do this sooner. I've travelled before, with families and friends, but living alone in a new place,away from the protective aegis (庇護(hù)) of my families and friends, was a different experiencein all—a wonderful experience!

So as I turn on the gas or take my clothes out for laundry, it's all good! It's the life—a brand new life!

It's been almost two months now. The newness is gradually fadng away, the dust issettling down. I feel fully settled, I really like this place, it feels like home!

◆典句賞析
