徐悲鴻的動(dòng)物畫(huà)善于捕捉動(dòng)物最為傳神的瞬間，除了馬，他的貓也很有代表性。據(jù)徐悲鴻之子徐慶平回憶，為了觀察貓的嬌敏，將貓畫(huà)得傳神，徐悲鴻家里甚至同時(shí)養(yǎng)過(guò)8只貓?！半m然父親每天下班后特別累，但他還是堅(jiān)持坐在躺椅上，一邊拿著乒乓球跟貓耍著玩，一邊觀察貓的神態(tài)和動(dòng)作?！逼湄埉?huà)或托物寄興，或用以酬答友人。1937年，徐悲鴻創(chuàng)作了《芭蕉黑貓》，畫(huà)芭蕉之下，一黑貓趴在石頭上，回首凝望。筆墨幾乎全以沒(méi)骨法畫(huà)成，雖然處處運(yùn)用的均是黑墨，但是結(jié)構(gòu)之處的交待沒(méi)有絲毫含糊，可見(jiàn)其筆墨駕馭之功力，十分洗練，神情畢現(xiàn)。

XU Beihong crated theBlack Cat under the Plantainin 1937, a black cat lying on the stone under the plantain, staring back. Nearly all the ink was used for bone-free water ink portrait,black ink was used everywhere, however the explanation of the structure was not slightest vague, showing his capacity of ink and brush control, and the small creature looked alive.
