I write this to explain why I&apos；ll be holding back my album， 1989， from the new streaming service， Apple Music. I feel this deserves an explanation because Apple has been and will continue to be one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans. I respect the company and the truly ingenious1） minds that have created a legacy based on innovation and pushing the right boundaries2）.

I&apos；m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I&apos；m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers， producers， or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking， disappointing， and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company.

This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself， my band， crew， and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut3） and thought that the royalties4） from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create， just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field ... but will not get paid for a quarter of a year&apos；s worth of plays on his or her songs.

These are not the complaints of a spoiled， petulant5） child. These are the echoed sentiments6） of every artist， writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call.

I realize that Apple is working towards a goal of paid streaming. I think that is beautiful progress. We know how astronomically7） successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists， writers and producers for the 3 month trial period ... even if it is free for the fans trying it out.

Three months is a long time to go unpaid， and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I say this with love， reverence8）， and admiration for everything else Apple has done. I hope that soon I can join them in the progression towards a streaming model that seems fair to those who create this music. I think this could be the platform that gets it right.

But I say to Apple with all due respect9）， it&apos；s not too late to change this policy and change the minds of those in the music industry who will be deeply and gravely affected by this. We don&apos；t ask you for free iPhones. Please don&apos；t ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation.

我寫這封信，是要解釋我為何要把我的專輯《1989》從新的流媒體服務(wù)器Apple Music上撤下來。我覺得這件事有必要解釋一下，因為蘋果從過去，到現(xiàn)在，再到將來，都一直是我最棒的合作伙伴之一，幫我銷售音樂，為我創(chuàng)造種種與粉絲建立聯(lián)系的方式。我尊重蘋果公司，尊重那些真正聰明的人，他們通過變革創(chuàng)新、拓展正確的業(yè)務(wù)邊界，為后世創(chuàng)造了一份財富。

我確信，你們都知道Apple Music將會為所有訂閱用戶提供三個月的免費試聽服務(wù)。但我不敢肯定，你們是否知道Apple Music在這三個月里將不會為創(chuàng)作者、制作人或藝人支付任何報酬。在我看來，這真是令人震驚、失望，完全不像是這家一向先進(jìn)且慷慨的公司所為。

這并非關(guān)乎我自己。謝天謝地，我正在出我的第五張專輯，而且能夠通過開現(xiàn)場演唱會養(yǎng)活我自己、我的樂隊、團隊成員以及整個管理團隊。這關(guān)乎那個新出道的藝人或樂隊，他們才剛剛發(fā)行自己的第一首單曲，卻不會因單曲的成功獲得報酬。這關(guān)乎那個年輕的歌曲創(chuàng)作者，他/她剛剛出了自己的第一首音樂，還以為它的版稅能讓自己還清債務(wù)。這關(guān)乎那位制作人，他/她不知疲倦地工作，去創(chuàng)新和創(chuàng)作，就像蘋果公司那些創(chuàng)新者和創(chuàng)造者在自己的領(lǐng)域里探索開拓一樣，可他們卻有一個季度無法因自己創(chuàng)作的歌曲獲得報酬。

以上這些并非一個被寵壞了的、任性妄為的孩子所說的抱怨之詞，而是我社交圈里每一位藝人、創(chuàng)作者和制作人共同的心聲，他們不敢公然發(fā)聲抗議，因為我們大家是如此敬重蘋果公司。我們只是對這一政策不敢茍同。

我意識到，蘋果公司是在向付費音樂的目標(biāo)努力。我想這是一個美好的進(jìn)步。我們知道蘋果至今已獲得了無比巨大的成功，也知道這一不可思議的公司有資本為藝人、創(chuàng)作者和制作人支付三個月試聽期內(nèi)的酬勞，即便粉絲試聽是免費的。

三個月得不到報酬，時間太長了。而且要求任何一個人不求回報地工作都是不公平的。我這樣說的時候，心中對蘋果公司所做的一切其他事情都滿懷愛意、敬重和欽佩。我希望不久之后我可以參與進(jìn)來，一起促進(jìn)建立一個對那些音樂創(chuàng)作者看上去也公平的流媒體運行模式。我想，這個模式可能就是把事情做對的平臺。

但蘋果公司，請恕我直言，改變這一政策，改變音樂界那些將深受此事影響的人的想法還不算太晚。我們并沒有要求免費使用iPhone手機，請別要求我們免費提供自己的音樂。
