Aurora Forecast

One month before your trip, you can start work on the aurora forecast. A few useful auroral forecast websites show you the best time to hunt for the natural wonder. An essential index is called the KP index, which measures the dynamics of aurora. When the KP index is above 2.5, observers are more likely to be able to see the aurora with the naked eye; when it is above 4, watchers can see clearly an entire sky of north light dancing above.When you arrive in the country of your choice, you can go to the second website below to check out the real time forecast. And when it tells you that the KP index of one specific night is above 4, then you should pick that day to see the aurora. You can also download these two APPs: Aurora Now and Aurora

在出發(fā)前一個月左右，就可以開始關(guān)注極光預(yù)測網(wǎng)站，以定好最終的出行時間。衡量極光強弱的一個很重要的指數(shù)是KP值，當KP值到達2.5以上時，觀測者有機會用肉眼看到極光，當KP值在4以上時，觀測者可以看到整個天空漫天飛舞的極光。當你去到目的地國家的時候，可以打開第二個網(wǎng)站查看實時極光強度預(yù)測，如果在未來某天有K值大于4的大爆發(fā)，可以適當調(diào)整行程以獲得最佳的追光體驗。此外手機端可以下載 Aurora Now、Aurora Forecast等軟件進行極光預(yù)測。

Weather Forecast

Fine weather is also important for the making of aurora.When you encounter the rainstorm or heavy snowfall, more often than not, you are not going to see the aurora this time. It is advisable to do some research on the local weather forecast at least three or four days in advance. You might want to check a few weather forecast websites just to be sure.

Photographic Equipment

You need a tri-pod and a DSLR camera that can do long exposure.Most local tour groups lend tripods for free.If you go by car,remember to take a tripod that stands firm, since it is usually very windy outside,and it might even rain sometimes. Also,prepare a few more lithium batteries since cameras are more power-consuming in cold weather.

拍攝極光需要能長時間曝光的單反相機和三腳架。如果是報名當?shù)芈眯袌F的追極光團的話，大部分是會免費提供三腳架的，如果是自駕游追極光的話，一定記得攜帶穩(wěn)定性能比較好的三腳架。相機在寒冷的天氣下耗電會比較快，有條件可以多備幾個鋰電池。

Dress Right

The cold Arctic climate demands extra warm clothing, especially since you will be standing still outside for extended periods of time. Take Tromso for example, the local temperature at night time in December is about -10°. You will need thermal underwear, warm sweaters, a jacket, a scarf, a hat and gloves.Choose footwear somewhat larger than normal to allow space for insulating air and socks, and make sure that all your clothes are waterproof, since you might be walking through the snowfield when necessary. Take some heating pads with you, since the temperature might fall below -30° if you are in the north of Finland.保暖衣物

以特羅姆瑟12月份觀看極光的行程為例，晚上氣溫大概是零下10度左右，需要準備滑雪褲/滑雪服（沖鋒衣）、保暖內(nèi)衣、防寒帽、抓絨手套、滑雪襪、雪地靴，一句話就是，全副武裝！最重要的是，這些衣物要防水，因為追極光可能會徒步穿越雪地，如果衣物進水了那種感覺真的太難受了。暖寶寶如果有條件的話可以準備一下。

Book a hotel

If you are not in a rush, you might want to stay a few more days in the place you plan to catch the aurora, so that you could schedule your trips more flexibly according to the local weather. During peak season, the most popular auroral hotels are usually fully booked. If you want a perfect trip, be sure to book your hotel at least one month in advance.

預(yù)訂酒店

如果時間寬裕，可以考慮在觀極光地點多待幾天，以根據(jù)當?shù)靥鞖庹{(diào)整行程。由于一般到12月份以后，幾個比較著名的極光酒店都會被訂滿，所以如果想獲得一個完美的體驗，建議提前一個月以上預(yù)訂酒店。
