Seven or eight thousand years ago, namely at the end of the primitive society, mankind began the first great social division of labor.Handicraft industry was separated from agriculture. There came craftsmen specializing in handicraft production.
As for“craftsman”,President Xi Jinpinghas pointed out that“all workers, as long as they are willing to work hard, develop real skills and master a technique, will become talents, findavast world in labor, fulfill values, display their graciousness and enjoy theirhappiness”.
The concept of the "spirit of craftsman" was first introduced in the government work report on 5th March, 2016 which “encourages enterprises to use custom-tailored and flexible production processes, foster a craftsmanship spirit of striving for the best, increase numbers of productstypes, enhance quality, and build famous brands.”
"Craftsman" originated from thousands of years ago. Nowadays, we still need "craftsmen" from all walks of life and need the craftsmanship spirit of striving for the best.
Hard work can build the future, and “craftsmanship spirit” can cast“Chinese dream”. China is moving from a big manufacturing country to an intelligent manufacturing country, which cannot be achieved without the development and innovation of every skilled worker. The great rejuvenation of Chinese nation and the “two century goals" cannot be achieved without people from all walks of life who practice and develop the “craftsmanship spirit”.
When the material life is filled with reproduction, welook back and find that for the fine crafted objects, the most precious and irreplaceable factor was "people" who stubbornly create exquisite, durable and handmade objectsandnever give upeven though the work cannot bring in wealth.
Such people not only exist in traditional handicrafts, but also can be found in the fields of design, research and so on. They are holding a craft or technique, and are determined to make it to the top. They have been dedicated their whole career to it.
This issue features in five craftsmen who deserve our respect. They are different in identity and field, but they own special skills andare willing to devote tothem for their whole lives.
From these individuals, what we see is a huge group of “craftsmen”, and the persistence and perseverance of the "craftsmanship spirit".
