Li Keqiang Attends 19th EU-China Summit

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang co-chaired the 19th EU-China Summit with President Donald Tusk of the European Council and President Jean-Claude Juncker of the European Commission at the headquarters of the European Council in Brussels on June 2， 2017.

The premier expressed his hope that the summit would send a positive signal that China-EU relations will maintain stability and continue to be consolidated， and that uncertainties in the international situation would be dealt with through stable China-EU cooperation.

He pointed out that China-EU cooperation has continued to make new developments in recent years. In an effort to improve cooperation in bilateral trade and investment， he urged both sides to expand two-way opening up and boost negotiations on bilateral investment agreements. He also stated that both sides should enhance cooperation in areas such as construction of infrastructure， aviation， information and cyber security， and promote ChinaEU intercommunication. He added that China and the EU need to expand cooperation in small and medium-sized enterprises， finance， oceans， renewable energy resources as well as other fields， organize the 2017 China-EU Blue Year， continue to expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges， and take the 2018 China-EU Tourism Year as an opportunity to facilitate measures for personnel exchanges.

Donald Tusk and Jean-Claude Juncker said that the EU and China have cooperated in major international affairs， including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development， climate change and the Iranian nuclear issue， and further enhanced cooperation in areas such as free trade， climate change and security， which are conducive to safeguarding world peace and stability， as well as promoting prosperity and development. The EU pays high attention to enhancing economic and trade relations between the two sides， supports the Belt and Road Initiative， and is willing to intensify cooperation in interconnectivity， and further expand two-way investment.

China and Japan Hold Fourth Round of High-level Political Dialogue

Upon invitation， State Councilor Yang Jiechi co-chaired the fourth round of China-Japan high-level political dialogues with Japans National Security Advisor Shotaro Yachi in Japan on May 29， 2017.

With this year marking the 45th anniversary of the normalization of ChinaJapanese diplomatic relations， Yang pointed out that bilateral relations are currently at an important juncture， with both opportunities and challenges presenting themselves. He urged both sides to remind themselves of their original intention in normalizing relations， uphold the spirit of using history as a window to look to the future， safeguard the political foundation and properly manage differences based on the four political documents and the principles of the four-point agreement， so as to promote the continuous improvement of bilateral relations.
