Many students have given up taking class notes by hand. Instead， they type on laptop or tablet computers. But scientists say that that method is less effective. If you need to remember something， write it. Writing notes by hand is much better for long-term memory of ideas， or conceptual information.

許多學(xué)生做筆記不用手寫(xiě)，而是記在筆記本或者平板電腦上。但是科學(xué)家們表示，這樣記筆記效果不佳。如果你需要記住一些東西，就寫(xiě)下來(lái)。用手寫(xiě)筆記更有利于概念信息的長(zhǎng)時(shí)記憶。

Turn off your computer if you want to remember something. Computers can be distracting. Computers provide the chance to send a quick message to a friend， check a sports’ score， shop or watch a funny cat video. It is really hard to resist a funny cat video. But computers may hurt performance in school， called academic performance.

如果你想記住一些東西就關(guān)掉你的電腦。電腦會(huì)分散你的注意力。你可以用電腦給朋友發(fā)消息，查看體育比分，購(gòu)物或是觀看有趣的貓咪視頻。而我們真的很難抗拒有趣的貓咪視頻。但是電腦可能會(huì)影響你在學(xué)校的表現(xiàn)，也就是學(xué)業(yè)成績(jī)。

Students who type notes on a keyboard often type what the professor says word-for-word. They may type without really thinking about what they are typing. These electronic notes contained more words. But scientists say it leads to “mindless transcription”.

學(xué)生使用鍵盤(pán)記筆記，經(jīng)常會(huì)逐字逐句打出教授說(shuō)的話。他們可能對(duì)自己敲打鍵盤(pán)寫(xiě)下的內(nèi)容沒(méi)有進(jìn)行過(guò)真正的思考。這些電子筆記包含了更多單詞。但是科學(xué)家表示，他們會(huì)導(dǎo)致“盲目抄錄”。

However， students taking notes by hand need to first process the information they hear. Then they record just the main points， or summarize. They use fewer words. This is because people usually write slower than they type. This process of summarizing information leads to a deeper understanding.

然而，學(xué)生們通過(guò)手寫(xiě)記筆記要先處理他們所聽(tīng)到的信息。然后他們記下的只是要點(diǎn)或者總結(jié)。他們用的文字更少。這是因?yàn)槿藗儗?xiě)字通常比打字要慢。這個(gè)總結(jié)信息的過(guò)程會(huì)引發(fā)深層次理解。

In the study， students listened to a teacher and then took a test. Some took notes by typing on a computer. The others took notes by writing them down. Both groups performed about the same in remembering facts. But students who typed their notes did much worse on conceptual questions. Also， researchers found that those who wrote their notes remembered conceptual information better a week later.

在這個(gè)研究中，學(xué)生聽(tīng)老師講課然后參加考試。一部分學(xué)生用電腦記筆記，另一部分則用手寫(xiě)記筆記。兩組學(xué)生記憶事實(shí)的表現(xiàn)大致相同，但在電腦上記筆記的學(xué)生在概念性問(wèn)題做得更差。并且，研究人員發(fā)現(xiàn)，用手記筆記的學(xué)生，在一周之后仍能更好地記住概念信息。

Scientists know that students probably will still use their laptops and tablets in class. But they suggest using some of the available technologies for writing notes by hand on computer screens.

科學(xué)家知道可能仍然有學(xué)生在課堂上用他們的筆記本或者平板電腦記筆記，但是他們建議，使用適當(dāng)技術(shù)在電腦屏幕上手寫(xiě)筆記。
