A group led by China's Anbang Insurance withdrew its bid for Starwood Hotels Resorts. According to person familiar with the matter, Anbang group had failed to provide enough financing details for the $14 billion takeover.
Starwood responded by confirming its earlier agreement with Marriott International that the latter agreed to pay cash and stock for the deal. The new deal is valued at approximately $13.3 billion according to Thursday's closing price. With the deal's closing, Marriott would become the biggest hotel group in the world, having a total of about 1.1 million rooms in 5,500 properties.
The Anbang-led consortium released a claim that said due to various market considerations, they have determined not to proceed further. They thanked the Starwood board, management team and its advisors for their efforts and support throughout this process. They also said that Starwood \"has met many of our acquisition criteria, including the ability to generate consistent, long-term returns over time\".
