Dear Liz，

My stay in Thailand has certainly been the experience of my life.

Life is busy and exciting. Bangkok is just like any other big city with a population of ten million and heavy traffic. Im very lucky because my host family is in a nice quiet area outside the city. I thought it was great， but Sanan and Chinda say that next month theyre taking me to Phuket Island， where the beaches are even more beautiful. The month after next， were going to travel to Mr. Phairats hometown in the north of Thailand. The Phairats own land there， and they have two elephants. Im going to ride those elephants and even wash them. Sanan and Chinda say its really fun.

Im amazed by everything in this country， especially by the elephants. Elephants are an important part of Thai culture and way of life. They have been a traditional symbol of Thailand for many years in times of war and peace. In the seventh century， a Thai king trained twenty thousand elephants for battle.

I bought a jasmine plant for my office. When I bought it， I was told it would bloom （開花） and the sweet smell would fill my office. I had the plant for two months， and every day I looked at it， but there werent any flowers or pleasant smell. I was unhappy， so I gave the plant to my friend Linda.

Two pandas were shipped from China to Canada on March 25， 2013. The pandas received a warm welcome to the North America from Canadas Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Chinese ambassador （大使） Zhang Junsai. The pandas will spend five years at the Toronto Zoo， and then spend another five years at the Calgary Zoo.

This is the first time in 20 years that pandas have been sent to Canadian zoo. “I want to offer my sincere thanks to the government of China for sharing these two pandas， symbolizing peace and friendship， with all Canadians，” said Prime Minister Harper.

The pandas are named Er Shun and Da Mao. Er Shun， a five-year-old female， came from the Chongqing Zoo， in southwest China. Da Mao， a four-year-old male， traveled from Chengdu.
