Having taught English at the Second Middle School in a high school setting for two years after graduation college, Ican deeply totally understand how painful the English learning experience was for Chinese EFL learners.Instead of cultivating the students’ability to master the language as means of communication, the traditional way of teaching tends to put too much focus on grammar and vocabularies.students’ pain to study English.Unsatisfied with this status quo, since the first day of my job, I have been struggling with the ways to create a fun, happy yet effective learning environment for my students.That’s also one of the most important reasons I am now applying for your applied linguistics programme, hoping to equip myself with more advanced teaching methods and philosophy.Studying English, in my eyes, should be of great fun, but traditional Chinese teaching methods have made some students suffer a lot, such as the diff i culty to rememberEnglish words and the misapplication ofEnglishgrammars.To intrigue students’ interest to learn English in a happy learning atmosphere, Ihave been battling with China’s traditional mode of teaching and sought for thenewest advanced teaching methods based on the applied linguistics.
My interest in English stemmed from my childhood experience, when my mother first taught me some simple English words and beautiful English songs.As I grow up gradually grew up, my passion for studying English is getting stronger became even stronger.Rather than conf i ning myself to Never limited myself to study textbook knowledge only, I have took taken the initiative to absorb extracurricular knowledge expand my horizons through extensive reading English book reading including novels, newspapers and magazines.Consequently, my view was broadened in relation to the cultural, political, social and economic aspects of western culture, so was my sense of the English language.s, newspapers and magazines, inspiring me to expand the breadth and depth of my knowledge , cultivate my sense of English language.Thanks to my diligenceand passion, I was accepted by admitted to XX Normal University, a place that had fostered generation after generation of great English teachers.
Four years there, I was given access to comprehensive training in both English teaching and learning, through which my interest in EFL and ESL teaching began to surface.On the one hand, I was so curious to learn the ways in which curriculum could be designed, the key aspects of lesson planning and classroom management, as well as contemporary teaching methodology.On the other hand, I found myself fascinated with linguistics.For instance, in lexicology courses, I was introduced to the concept and types of morphemes as well as the meaning of common word roots and affixes, which I found will greatly assist EFL students’ learning of vocabularies if it was effectively employed in classroom teaching.Besides, semantics and syntax also seem to be so important in both English learning and teaching.To be more specific, the former provides the learners with useful theories and methods to remember words’meaning and avoid the mistakes caused by polysemy and homonymy, while the latter helps learners to develop familiarity with the structural characteristics of the English language, and thus have the ability to analyze complex sentences.Knowing that theoretical knowledge needs to be put into application to make the most of it, I tried to apply the basic linguistics knowledge into my everyday learning of English, and in return, my English proficiency has been considerably enhanced.Therefore, right after my graduation, I stood out from over X applicants and proudly became a high school English teacher at X school in X.

這是一篇經(jīng)過外教修改的文書,原文出現(xiàn)了不少PS寫作通病。首先,英語論文寫作要求使用第三人稱以顯中立,但PS作為個人陳述,鼓勵多使用第一人稱講述自己的故事、表達自己的觀點。第二,本文用了過多的篇幅羅列自己的本科課程。PS字數(shù)有限,寧可少而精,也不要用羅列來充字數(shù),例子最好都與申請方向契合,并且展現(xiàn)一些細節(jié)及成果。第三,作者也許為了展現(xiàn)自己對英語語言的熱愛,花了不少篇幅寫自己與英美文學的淵源,但這與自己之前學習和從事的英語教育以及將要學習的應用語言學在學術上關聯(lián)不大。
還需提醒的是,修改后,每個段落都太長,不利于閱讀體驗,建議一段文字最好不超過六行,閱讀起來舒適度較高,也有助于讀者(招生官)梳理邏輯。

The more I study English, the greater my passion is.Among the above-mentioned courses, Ipreferred English and American Literature as well as Linguistics.English and American Literature gave me a glimpse of the history and culture of English-speaking countries, which largely arouse my curiosity to know more about English culture and my determination to improve my English proficiency.And Linguistics introduced me to the basic theories of English language.For example, the Phonetics taught me the production of speech sounds by the articulatory and vocal tract, the physical transmission of speech sounds from the speaker to the listener, and the reception and perception of speech sounds, thus enabling me to has a good grasp of Englishpronunciation and English listening.Besides, the Lexicologyled me to the concept and type of morphemesas well as the meaning of common word roots and affixes, greatly improving my ability to rememberEnglish words and enlarge my vocabulary.More importantly, the semantics provideme useful theories and ways to rememberwords’ meaning and avoid the mistakes caused by polysemy and homonymy.Moreover, the Syntax facilitated me to have a profound understanding of the structural characteristics of English, thus further enlightened me to make and analyze complex sentences.That’s all I have benefited from studying Linguistics.Adhering to the principle of making study serve the practical purpose, I applied these basic linguistics theories to daily studying, and in return, my English prof i ciency was greatly improved.On account of my solid mastery of English, I took a hard-won opportunity to teach senior high studentsEnglish at the Second Middle School in Wuchang upon graduation.
