“Parents’ awareness of the dangers and risks of minors’ drinking should be raised and popularized so that they can strengthen the education related to drinking.” said Ma Guansheng, Deputy Director of the Nutrition and Food Security Institute of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention appealed to society.
It’s known that the best window phase to prevent juvenile from drinking alcohol is when they are 13-23. It is the golden age for juveniles’ psychology to get mature. At the same time, an international research in the factors contributing to juveniles drinking shows that the neglect of parents towards juveniles will make the possibility of juveniles drinking 3.7 times larger than others; and the encouraging attitudes of parents will make it 5.2 times larger than others. To juveniles from the families in which both parents drink, the possibility of drinking is several times larger than other families.
According to the international convention, after the session of establishing legislations on juveniles’ drinking, the laws normally would be carried out strictly. However, parents’ interventions have obviously key impact on juveniles’ drinking behaviors. When the reporter asked the interviewees whether they miss their “first sip” of alcohol, Zhang Ming answered, “The first ‘sip’ from my father only left ‘spicy’ for me and no others. If I didn’t take it so early, maybe a little later, it may leave me something more that is much more worth memorizing.”
