華山游客中心位于陜西省華陰市城南5km處的華山北麓一處山地，是進(jìn)入華山觀光的“大門”，在為旅游者提供必要服務(wù)的同時(shí)也兼顧景區(qū)綜合管理的職能，以應(yīng)對(duì)游客的持續(xù)增加和日益顯現(xiàn)的游覽與保護(hù)之間的矛盾。

設(shè)計(jì)是在華山申報(bào)世界自然與文化雙遺產(chǎn)的背景下進(jìn)行的，建筑師在滿足基本使用需求的前提下盡可能簡(jiǎn)化了功能。設(shè)計(jì)在回應(yīng)環(huán)境、錨固場(chǎng)地方面做出了不懈的努力，將建筑以大地景觀的方式進(jìn)行表達(dá)，以具現(xiàn)一種場(chǎng)所精神。同時(shí)，設(shè)計(jì)還充分研究了設(shè)施中可能的環(huán)境行為，并以真正屬于場(chǎng)地的方式將其包被，營(yíng)造出獨(dú)特的空間體驗(yàn)。設(shè)計(jì)貫徹了這樣的觀念：人工場(chǎng)所是自然場(chǎng)所的集結(jié)，世俗空間要向自然之神表示敬畏。

The Mount Huashan visitor Center is located in the northern foothills of Mount Huashan. Five kilometers south of Shaanxi's Huayin City, the center serves as the gate to this world famous scenic area. The center provides visitor dedicated services as well as facilities for programs managing the scenic area. It is a mediator in the constant struggle between the goals of visiting tourists and the interests of preservation.

Given Mount Huashan's status as a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site, the architects persuaded their clients to reduce the scale and functions of the building as much as possible. The designers made every effort put the building in conversation with the surrounding environment. To anchor it to the site and make the genus loci of the place palpable, they established a language of earthscaped forms. By studying the environmental factors relevant to the place and responding to them with local forms, they developed the unique spatial experience of the Center. Throughout the project the architects held to two beliefs-that the best manmade places are gatherings of the natural place, and that secular spaces should embody respect for the God of nature.
