New Friendship*
It was a beautiful day, bright* and warm. Flora was picking flowers with Furry and Buggy. Suddenly(突然) she saw a boy. The boy was riding a bike.
“That boy looks like Mitt Glueberry.” Flora thought.
Furry and Buggy also saw the boy. They barked(吠) and ran to him.
Flora whistled(吹口哨). The dogs heard* the signals(信號). They ran back to Flora. The boy got off* his bike. It was Mitt Glueberry.
He extended(伸展) his hand to the dogs. The dogs licked(舔) his hand. The boy laughed. “Ha ha, do you recognize me now?*” he asked the dogs.
Then he asked Flora, “Where are you going?”
“To pick flowers. And you?” Flora asked the boy. “To see you,” said Mitt.
“Did Aunt Bo’s cows really scare(驚嚇) you?” he asked. “Well, they did. The villagers tell me they are really wild.*” said Flora.
“They only tolerate(認(rèn)可) Aunt Bo and me.” Mitt said.
“Tell me something about them!” Flora said to the boy.
They talked while walking.* Mitt told* Flora many funny stories. The sun shone* high in the sky.
“I have to* go!” said Flora. “Will you come tomorrow?”
“I have to take the geese to the river bank(河岸). Can you come with me?” Mitt asked Flora.
“If you can come, meet me at seven at the edge(邊緣) of the village!*” said Mitt. And then he jumped on his bike and rode away*.
Flora ran home with Furry and Buggy.
