我們都知道sleep是“睡覺”的意思，可是有的時候，sleep不一定是“睡覺”，而“睡覺”也不一定就得用sleep來表示。有點(diǎn)被我說暈了吧，看看下面幾個短語你就明白了。

sleep on sth.

1. sleep on sth. 是“推遲做出決定，留到第二天解決”的意思，一件事情決定不下來，先把它放下，美美地睡上一覺再說，說不定睡醒后就會有好主意了呢。

Ill sleep on your proposal[建議] and give you my answer tomorrow morning.

我會好好考慮一下你的建議，明早給你答復(fù)。

2. sleep off

sleep off 是“借睡覺恢復(fù)或復(fù)原”的意思，以睡覺來消除疲勞、負(fù)面的情緒、醉酒的狀態(tài)等。Go home and sleep it off.

回家睡一覺，消除一下疲勞吧！

3. hit the sack

hit the sack從字面上看是“捅一個口袋”的意思，日常表達(dá)中的意思卻是“要去睡覺了”。sack在這里是指床，hit是去床上睡覺的意思。但是，只有hit the sack可以表示“去睡覺”的意思，其它的，比如說，我要坐下，就不能說 to hit the chair；此外，to hit the sack只能指結(jié)束一天工作和學(xué)習(xí)后晚上去睡覺，午睡不能用這個短語來表達(dá)。

Louis was so tired that he hit the sack right after supper.

路易斯太累了，所以吃過晚飯就早早上床睡覺了。

4. to pull an all-nighter

to pull an all-nighter就是我們平常所說的“開夜車”，pull在這里指讓自己受到某種煎熬。因此，這個短語更準(zhǔn)確的意思，就是迫使自己通宵學(xué)習(xí)或工作。

I have to pull an all-nighter to get this project done.

我得熬夜把這個項(xiàng)目做完。

5. toss and turn

toss and turn就是“輾轉(zhuǎn)反側(cè)，翻來覆去難以入睡”的意思。

You toss and turn， but sleep won t come.

你輾轉(zhuǎn)反側(cè)，但總是睡不著。

I toss and turn in bed only because of you.

我在床上輾轉(zhuǎn)反側(cè)，不能入眠，只是因?yàn)槟恪?/p>

6. sleep through

sleep through指“睡時沒被（鬧鐘等）吵醒或驚醒，睡著沒聽見（或看

見）”，表示睡覺時沒有受到噪音的影響。

Im afraid I slept through the alarm.

恐怕鬧鐘沒能把我吵醒。
