“Who is this kid Cumberbatch？” You wont hear that question in the United Kingdom， where the brilliant quirky misanthrope （離群索居者） “Sherlock” is a full-tilt （猛烈地；全力地） prime-time （黃金時段） sensation （轟動）.

The show sherlock， created by “Doctor Who” Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss （and， of course， the original author， Arthur Conan Doyle）， costars （合演；聯(lián)袂主演明星） Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson， an army doctor who was injured in Afghanistan （阿富汗） and finds himself as the only true friend to the strange “consulting detective （私家偵探）”. The show is playful （theres much humor） but its not as proudly daft （古里古怪的） as “Doctor Who”， Holmes also doesnt spend as much time smiling at people.

But how long will this Sherlock stay at the scene of the crime？ More and more， the actor is hearing the call of larger screens and a wider world.

Moffatt says that Cumberbatch， whose mother and father put together long careers in television and on stage， was already one of the most admired actors of his generation and within the industry. Moffat said， “We were the lucky ones who gave him the breakthrough （突破） part. The challenge of Sherlock Holmes is to play a show-off （愛炫耀的人）， self-obsessed （自戀） person and yet still be loved， and actually very few people have pulled it off （勝利完成）. I may be prejudiced， but I dont think anyone has pulled it off as well as Benedict.”
