Daenerys Targaryen， is the last confirmed member of the ancient Targaryen Dynasty and one of the primary characters in the book series. In the TV series， Daenerys is played by Emilia Clarke.

In her youth， Dany was a meek， timid girl with little confidence or self-esteem. She knew no life other than one of exile， dependent and in constant fear of her brother Viserys. He was the only family she knew， but was often a cruel guardian， prone to mood swings and fits of violence.

DAENERYS Her brother held the gown up for her inspection. “This is beauty. Touch it. Go on. Caress the fabric.”Dany touched it. The cloth was so smooth that it seemed to run through her fingers like water. She could not remember ever wearing anything so soft. “A gift from the Magister Illyrio，” Viserys said， smiling. “The color will bring out the violet in your eyes. And you shall have gold jewels of all sorts. Tonight you must look like a princess.”A princess， Dany thought. She had forgotten what that was like. Perhaps she had never really known. “Why does he give us so much？” she asked. “What does he want from us？” For nigh on half a year， they had lived in the magisters house， eating his food， pampered by his servants. Dany was thirteen， old enough to know that such gifts seldom come without their price， here in the free city of Pentos.

“Illyrio is no fool，” Viserys said. He was a gaunt young man with a feverish look in his pale lilac eyes. “The magister knows that I will not forget my friends when I come into my throne.”

Dany said nothing. Magister Illyrio was a dealer in spices， gemstones， dragonbone， and other， less savory things. It was said that hed never had a friend he wouldnt cheerfully sell for the right price.

Dany listened to the talk in the streets， and she heard these things， but she knew better than to question her brother when he wove his webs of dream. His anger was a terrible thing when roused. Viserys called it “waking the dragon.”

When he was gone， Dany went to her window and looked out wistfully on the waters of the bay. Dany could hear the shouts of ragged children playing games beyond the walls of the estate. For a moment she wished she could be out there with them， barefoot and breathless and dressed in tatters， with no past and no future and no feast to attend at Khal Drogos manse.

Somewhere beyond the sunset， across the narrow sea， lay a land of green hills and flowered plains and great rushing rivers. The Dothraki called that land Rhaesh Andahli. In the Free Cities， they talked of Westeros and the Sunset Kingdoms.

Her brother had a simpler name. “Our land，” he called it. The words were like a prayer with him. If he said them enough， the gods were sure to hear. “Ours by blood right， taken from us by treachery， but ours still， ours forever. ”

She had never seen this land her brother said was theirs， this realm beyond the narrow sea. Viserys had been a boy of eight when they fled Kings Landing to escape the advancing armies of the Usurper， but Daenerys had been only a quickening in their mothers womb.

She had been born on Dragonstone nine moons after their flight. Her mother had died birthing her， and for that her brother Viserys had never forgiven her.

They had wandered since then， never staying long in any one place. Her brother would not allow it. The Usurpers hired knives were close behind them， he insisted， though Dany had never seen one.

At first the magisters and archons and merchant princes were pleased to welcome the last Targaryens to their homes and tables， but as the years passed and the Usurper continued to sit upon the Iron Throne， doors closed and their lives grew meaner. Years past they had been forced to sell their last few treasures， and now even the coin they had gotten from Mothers crown had gone.

“We will have it all back someday， sweet sister，” he would promise her. Viserys lived for that day. All that Daenerys wanted back was the big house with the red door， the lemon tree outside her window， the childhood she had never known.

丹妮沒有答話。伊利里歐總督是個(gè)商人，專做香料、寶石、龍骨買賣，以及其他見不得人的勾當(dāng)。有人說，只要對方開得出價(jià)錢，任何朋友他都樂于出賣。

這些話丹妮都靜靜地聽了進(jìn)去，但她知道最好不要在兄長編織迷夢時(shí)戳破。韋賽里斯一旦生氣起來非常駭人，他稱為“喚醒睡龍之怒”。

他離開后，丹妮走到窗邊，思慕地望著海灣。丹妮可以聽見高墻外孩童玩耍時(shí)的笑鬧喧嘩。就在那一剎那，她好希望自己能在外面和他們一起赤足嬉戲，穿著破爛衣裳喘著氣，沒有過去，沒有未來，也不用參加卓戈卡奧的宅邸晚宴。

在夕陽狹海的彼岸，有個(gè)青陵縱橫、花開平野、深河奔涌的地方。多斯拉克人稱呼那個(gè)地方為“雷敘安達(dá)里”。在自由城邦里，人們則稱之為“維斯特洛”和“日落國度”。

哥哥有個(gè)更簡單的說法，他稱之為“我們的土地”。這個(gè)名字就像句禱詞，彷佛只要他說得次數(shù)夠多，諸神就一定會聽到?！澳鞘俏覀凖堊逖}所繼承的土地，雖然遭人以陰謀詭計(jì)所奪，但仍然屬于我們，永遠(yuǎn)屬于我們。”

那塊位在海峽對岸，哥哥信誓旦旦屬于他們的土地，她從來沒有見過。當(dāng)年他們躲避節(jié)節(jié)進(jìn)逼的“篡奪者”軍隊(duì)，被迫逃離君臨城時(shí)，韋賽里斯還是個(gè)八歲大的男孩，但丹妮只不過是母親子宮里胎動的血肉罷了。

逃亡之后九個(gè)月，她降生在龍石島，她的母親難產(chǎn)而死，為此韋賽里斯始終沒有原諒她。

從那之后，他們開始了流浪的歲月，未曾在一處落腳扎根。哥哥不肯定居下來，他總說“篡奪者”派來的殺手緊迫在后，然而丹妮卻連半個(gè)刺客也沒見著過。

起初各地的總督、大君和商界巨賈很樂于接待坦格利安后裔，但隨著日子漸漸過去，“篡奪者”在鐵王座上坐得越來越穩(wěn)，原本為他們敞開的們一扇扇關(guān)了起來，他們的日子也日益艱苦。幾年來，他們當(dāng)?shù)袅怂械闹閷?。到如今，連販賣母親王冠所得的錢幣也全部花光。

“我的好妹妹，有朝一日我們一定會收復(fù)失土?！表f賽里斯這么向她承諾。韋賽里斯之所以活著就是為了那一天的到來，丹妮卻只想重回那棟有紅漆大門的宅院，想要她窗外的那株檸檬樹，還有她失去的童年。
