Shes cute， 3）sassy， and already a makeup 4）guru. OK， so maybe shes not a total pro， but just like the made-up girls on TVs Toddlers and Tiaras， four year-old Bretta Crosss fascination with grown-up cosmetics has set off a serious online debate. It all started when her mom， Lindsey， posted a mommy confession blog on mommyish.com writing， “I let my toddler wear makeup： eyes， cheeks， lips， the whole thing.”

Lindsey Cross says her daughters fascination came after watching her apply makeup for events. It soon became their special bonding routine. “Every holiday， performance or any other event that she deems necessarily fancy， we pick out a pretty dress， curl her hair， and then we apply a little makeup. Alright， we apply a full face of makeup.”

Lindsey： When I wrote the piece I didnt think it was that monumental of a deal.

What Cross didnt expect was an online backlash with parents weighing in. And some experts agree， saying four is too young for makeup.

Henry Paul （Adolescent Psychiatrist）： Makeup， in some way can be addictive， and what these children would be addicted to is the pursuit of perfection， kind of a superficial， skin-deep “Im only as good as I look.”

But Cross says her daughters makeup is just childs play.

Reporter： Why do you love to put makeup on？

Bretta： Cause I like to.

Reporter： What makes it so special？

Bretta： Because it makes me pretty.

Reporter： Do you think its kind of contradictory where“you dont have to have makeup on to be beautiful， but I know that you feel the prettiest when you have it on and Ill let you do it.”

Lindsey： I understand that， and I think that those are still discussions that well have as she gets older.

For now， though， Cross says， she just wants her daughter to enjoy being a child.

Lindsey： Its dress-up，…its playing pretend， its pretending that shes older， and I think that as she gets to be a little bit older， shell look at it differently and so well talk about it differently.

林賽沒有想到的是眾多父母參與此事的討論，在網(wǎng)上形成強(qiáng)烈的反對意見。有些專家也對四歲孩子就化妝太早的意見表示贊成。

亨利·保羅（青少年心理學(xué)家）：在某種程度上，化妝是會上癮的。這些孩子會因此沉溺于對完美的容顏，對外表，對膚淺東西的追求，會形成“我的外表就代表我”的看法。

但林賽卻說她女兒化妝這事只不過是小孩的游戲罷了。

記者：你為什么喜歡化妝呢？

布雷塔：因?yàn)槲揖褪窍矚g啊。

記者：化妝有什么特別的？

布雷塔：化妝可以讓我變漂亮。

記者：一個人不一定要化妝才好看，但我明白你在化妝后覺得自己是最漂亮的，所以我就讓你這么做。——你不覺得這種想法自相矛盾嗎？

林賽：我明白你的意思，我覺得得等她長大后，我再來跟她討論這些。

但就現(xiàn)在而言，林賽說她只想讓女兒享受自己的童年。
