        RogerBarnard, PhD, is an associate professor in applied linguistics at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. Before taking up his present post in 1995, he worked for twenty years in England, Europe and the Middle East. He has recently accepted Visiting Professorships in Japan, Korea and Vietnam to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and to undertake joint research projects.
