The Origin of the Golden Fleece

The king Athamas took the Cloud Goddess， Nephele，as his first wife， with whom he had two children， the boyPhrixus and the girl Helle. Later he divorced Nephele andmarried Ino. Ino， the stepmother， not only hated the twochildren， but also plotted to kill them. To help the twochildren avoid the jealousy of Ino， Nephele appeared to thetwo children with a winged golden ram to send them away.
