我們來看幾組跟冠詞有著千絲萬縷聯(lián)系的詞組

1. in possession of… in the possession of…

擁有、占有之意，兩個短語唯一的區(qū)別就是一個the。in possession of…應使用人作為句子的主語，而in the possession of…則要使用物作為主語，of后跟someone。

例句：

He was caught in possession of a gun and some drugs.

那個嫌疑犯被逮住的時候被發(fā)現(xiàn)攜有一支槍和一些毒品。

這句話也可以轉(zhuǎn)換為A gun and some drugs were in the possession of the suspect when he was caught.

2. in charge of… in someone's charge…

管理、負責之意。這組短語和第一組類似，主語是人還是物，大家一定要留心。

例句：

He was selected to be in charge of the new department. 他被選做這個新部門的負責人。

The new department had been in the manager's charge since it was founded. 這個新部門成立時就是由經(jīng)理來負責的。

3. in fashion in a fashion

in fashion意為正在流行，相關(guān)短語還有come into fashion開始流行、bring…into fashion使某物流行。

例句：

Jeans are still in fashion this year. 今年牛仔褲仍舊十分流行。

若是在中間加了冠詞a，意思可就截然不同了。in a fashion意為勉強、馬馬虎虎，和after a fashion意思相同。

例句：Jennifer told me she could play tennis in a fashion/after a fashion.

珍妮弗告訴我她網(wǎng)球打得馬馬虎虎。

4. in the hope of… in hopes of… 這兩個短語意思是一樣的，都是“懷著某種希望”。但是絕對不要試圖省掉the或者使用hope的單數(shù)形式。如果后面跟從句可以用in the hope that…。

例句：

Mike wrote a touching letter to his girlfriend in the hope that she would forgive him.

麥克給她女朋友寫了封感人肺腑的信，希望可以得到女朋友的原諒。

例句：

He came to New York alone in hopes of finding a job.

他懷著找工作的希望，只身一人來到紐約。

5. on the Earth on earth

on the Earth表示在地球上，就是其字面含義。

例句：

We can not make use of the resources on the Earth without replacing them.

我們不能無止盡地利用地球上的資源而不去尋找替代能源。

on earth 在人世間，并無具體意義，常和表示否定意義的詞連用表示強調(diào)。

例句：

She is such a stubborn person that no one on earth could change her mind.

她是個如此倔強的人，沒有誰能改變她的想法。
