From 24 to 26 April 2018, the 15thInternational Conference on Surfactant & Detergent (ICSD 2018), was held in Shanghai where top industry experts exchanged knowledge geared toward shaping the future of surfactant and detergent industry globally.

This year, under the theme of “Openness, Greening,Sharing”, ICSD 2018 gathered together more than 300 experts and delegates from governmental departments,research institutes, industrial associations, universities &colleges, enterprises and international organizations around the world.

The first day of ICSD 2018 was inaugurated by an opening session. In the morning of 24 April, opening remark was made by Mrs. Zheng Wuhong, the president of China Cleaning Industry Association (CCIA). “As a China’s largest and most influential conference in surfactant and detergent fields,ICSD is an important platform for international exchange of academic information.” she said in her opening statement.

Mr. Wang Wanxu, the chairman of organizing committee of ICSD and president of RIDCI extended a very warm welcome to the guests and delegates. He said,“With the deepening of China’s rapid growth of highquality in this new era and the constant advancement of‘One Belt, One Road’, the China surfactant and detergent industry already has a better development environment.”He hoped that all the parties involved in the industry at home and abroad should seize the opportunity, and cooperate more with each other to jointly promote the sustainable and healthy development of the industry.

Through plenary lectures, poster presentations,exhibitions and information release, ICSD 2018 offers a unique opportunity for delegates with an international outlook to meet with their peers, exchange know-how and experience, test new ideas, and form partnerships. 22 well-known experts and scholars, who came from China,the US, Poland, Italy, Malaysia, Denmark and so on, were invited to present keynote speeches and specific reports.They had extensive discussions on current hot topics such as the development status, standards and regulations,technological innovation, environmental protection,and basic research in the industry. There were totally 23 presentations during 4 sessions, including one Plenary Lecture session, one Keynote session, one Basic Research session and one Industrial Application session. Meanwhile,more than 40 excellent academic papers were selected for poster presentation by the Conference Committee.

Meanwhile, the 2018 International Exhibition on Surfactant & Detergent was held in Shanghai Convention &Exhibition Center of International Sourcing. It was hosted by RIDCI and China National Productivity Promotion Center of Surfactant and Detergent, organized by China Information Center of Daily Chemical Industry and Shanghai Yihan Exhibition Service Company. This year,as many as 100 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, and more than 8,000 professional registration visitors from 42 countries and regions attended the three-day international event. Both exhibitors and visitors impressed by exhibition high quality.

ICSD is designed as a global platform for the surfactant and detergent industry and integrates all resources that are relevant to a successful development of the industry.The event witnessed major involvement by industry leaders and professionals and provided the delegates an opportunity to address current problems, exchange ideas and information, and speculate about the future. It also offered insight into what the near future trends might be,and what the roles of industry professionals will be in the future.

ICSD 2018 received high praise from both experts and delegates for broadening and deepening of international communication channels and ideas of openness and mutual benefits.
